I am not sure we will get Trim in RAID0 on our board unless Intel add this feature in future
versions of the Intel OROMs and RST drivers that are meant for our chipset.

The 11.5 Intel OROMs and RSTe drivers are really meant for boards that have a enterprise
chipset which the Asus Rampage III Extreme doesn't have.

I really hope they do bring out some sort of Trim in RAID0 for boards that contain our chipset
but it is a possibility that this feature might only be possible on newer boards.

From the help section....(Getting Started). 11.2

• Trim (Microsoft Windows 7* only)
This feature provides support for all pass-through solid-state drives (SSDs) in your storage system that meets the ATA-8 protocol requirements. Also, support is provided for SSDs that are part of a RAID 0 array. This feature optimizes write operations, helps reduce device wear, and maintains unused storage area on devices as large as possible.

Does this mean we have trim in raid 0 already. we have the 11.2 rom and the drivers. and windows 7!!!

well it says in the drivers it does. and in theory all you need is the orom and the drivers. so now we just need to find out how you actually find out if it is working. the other question is how important is trim with modern day ssds like the vertex 4. they claim to have advanced garbage collection. but still i would like to use trim if i could. i am waiting for the results before i get another vertex 4. awsome ssd btw.

CrstalMark 3.0.1 gives me :

SEQ. read 375 write 232
512 read 278 write 222
4k read 17 write 52
4kQD32 read 199 write 144
that's a half of potential of SDD. Can i do anything to imporve this performance? THANX

No you can not. that is as good as it gets. put the ssd on the intel controller. the latency will be faster. and you will get better performance. even with the updated marvel rom and drivers the performance was worse on the marvell controller. save yourself the time and go back to the intel. if you want mroe speed go with a raid 0 setup. but a good ssd on the intel controller is all you need.

Uhm... I currently have my Samsung 830 on the Marvell controller, and two WD Caviar Black HDs in RAID0 on the Intel. I'm tempted to try the SSD on the Intel, but what about my HDs in raid? Should I move them to the Marvell if I want to use AHCI mode on the Intel, or can I leave them together, with the Intel set to raid mode?

I wouldn't recommend moving your SSD to our boards Intel controller because you would get slower speed from a single SSD on the
Intel controller than you would on the Marvell controller because of our Intel controller is not a SATA III controller.

If you are setting up RAID using SSDs, then it is better to use the Intel controller
because the Marvell Controller can't handle the bandwidth when in RAID0

Thanks sinders, but I guess BigT did some tests with a single SSD and found out Intel to be better than Marvell anyway. I saw several reviews on the net, and basically everybody says Intel produces better performance than Marvell, even if max read speed is capped to Sata II levels. Access time and 4k performance is way higher on Intel, apparently. I just need to know if it's possible to keep my HDD raid on the Intel together with my SSD.

Yes that can be done. If you are useing the intel controller in "raid mode" any drive connected to the intel controller that is not part of a raid volume will be run in AHCI mode. So that solves all your problems. And the access time on the intel controller is alot better then the marvell controller. ann the 4k speeds as was mentioned above. i just hope with the new 11.2 rom and drivers that the trim in raid 0 is not working as it is stated in the drivers help file.
