Fujitsu R570 to R570-2 for intel X5650 and X5660 support
#1
Hello all,

I tried to fit an intel Xeon X5660 in to my new ebay R570 but it didnt work, black screen fans are spinning no response no beeps, just an expensive ventilator basicly.
with an E5504 it works.
specs of the cpu i want to use eventually: X5650 Six-Core 2,66GHz CPU SLBV3
specs of the cpu i am using to test now ntel Xeon X5660 Hex (6) Core 2,8GHz SLBV6

(long intro)
i thought socket 1366 is socket 1366 but apparently its not, and at least for me it is even more particular in the case of the Fujitsu Siemens R570 Workstion.
I saw a good offer on ebay googled on an R570 got the spec sheet
http://globalsp.ts.fujitsu.com/dmsp/Publications/public/ds-CELSIUS-R570-2.pdf
and http://globalsp.ts.fujitsu.com/dmsp/Publications/public/ds-celsius-R570-Master.pdf

BUT didnt see the small 2 in both of them i didnt know at the time there was a R570-2 and in both specsheets there is a large written R570 without 2.

so my problem is the following, i wanted to build a computer based on the R570 and add 2 X5650 cpu's, but apparently that doesnt work.
because my mobo is a D2628 but i need a D2628!

but thats the same!
yes but in the manual, sorry they use java i cant link the direct link but they are here: (http://support.ts.fujitsu.com/manuals/ShowManuals.asp?LNG=lu)
its written that only the Cxx boards support 6 core configs,

so after a lot of surfing i found that there is a D2628-B14 and a D2628-C14
and only the last one supports the X56XX cpu's

but when i read the manuals of both the R570 with the D2628-B14 and the R570-2 with the C14 it appears that everything thing is the same, i mean in the manual, i dont see any differences between the B14 and C14 versions.

So i kinda had the hope that it was just a marketing tric, and that they just didnt write the cpu's in the bios. in order to seel more new computers
(end long intro)

The bios files of both the R570 and R570-2 are available on the support site,
and their numbers and sizes are almost exactly the same, the R570-2 one only slightly larger (hopefully containing just the few extra cpu entries).

Is there any one that could make me a R570 bios with the R570-2 entries for the X5640 and X5660 cpu's?

i would be happy to try it.
and if it works i think we can make a lot of people very happy, by the experiment.
(there shoudnt be any thermal issues, both boards support up to 95W TDP).
Honestly besides the name, and bios i could not find a single difference between the 2 versions.

i already tried just to upgrade the B1 mobo with the C1 mobo but it wants a file with the same name as what is written in the bios, i was kinda tempted to rename the files, but then i thought, its probably better to ask some professionals.

the link to the bios, doesn't work because they use java so no direct adress
but if you click on
http://support.ts.fujitsu.com/manuals/ShowManuals.asp?LNG=lu
then WORKSTATIONS>CELSUS>R SERIES and then
R570 and R570-2 the bios files are there.
if you want i can upload the bios files but i thought its copyrighted, so ...

So any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated, but please just experienced guys i am risking to brick my mobo, so please be nice.
