Gigabyte Ga X58-UD5 and Xeon L5639 hexacore (Will donate if it works!)
#1
Hello and thanks for a great site! This isn't the fist time im in here but now its a bit urgent!
First of all if someone fix this issue i will be donating a decent amount of money!

I have asked Gigabyte why i cant overclock this CPU and got this answer back to me
---------------------------------answer from Gigabyte------------------------------------------------------
Hi Robert,

the Intel Xeon L5639 hexa core CPU is not supported by the GA-EX58-UD5(rev. 1.0) motherboard.

You can see the CPU support list for your motherboard here:
http://www.gigabyte.com/support-download...x?pid=2958

Have a great day and take care!
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

--------------------------------------Description------------------------------------------
Well i have purchased an Intel Xeon-L5639 Hexacore (L stands for low power) and this is an OEM cpu that has been used for Facebook servers for an example, and will not be listed at Intels webpage.

Now to the issue. The mobo find this CPU and it works great in stock clocks. The problem is when i try to overclock this beauty. I have seen a lot of people who succeed overclocking this on ASUS,MSI and EVGA boards but mine is a no go.

It hangs on postcode (Freezes on postcode C1=Detect memory, Auto-detection of DRAM size, type and ECC, Auto-detection of L2 cache).

not sure if this is the proper code because it flickers from C1 to something i cant see what it is. I cant touch anything that has to frequency to do to the cpu or memory. Voltage i can adjust without any problems!. If i try to rise the BCLK 1Mhz it wont post and so on...

Now im not sure if this is the issue but as my 920 is no problem to clock beyond madness and this Xeon L5639 cant even handle +1Mhz BCLK it must be something that differs from a hexacore like 970,980x and 990x. Only thing i can see is that All Core I7 cpus has 1 QPI Link and this Xeon has 2 QPI Links. Also this is manufactured in 32nm, My CoreI7 920 is manufactured in 45nm. Can this be the issue or is the L5639 not supported at all?If its unsupported,Should it be possible to boot it with Stock settings? How come Asus and many other boards can overclock this CPU? Also its verified that this CPU will clock to atleast 3,4Ghz on a Asus Rampage II Gene. Also i have seen another guy succeded on a Ga EX58-UD3

Also i have the latest Bios installed which is F13j with slic 2.1 which i need to have.

-------------Here is a guy with UD5---------------------------
I cant figure out how he made it? Sure he has an older Bios F12 but that shouldn't be the issue.

Promptly stuck in in the Gigabyte EX58-UD5 v1.0 (BIOS on the board is currently F12), and it works just fine.
The multipler goes from 12 to 18, but skips 17 for some reason.
In any case, just have to install Windows and see what it can do.
From the reviews of this board, I am looking at around a 215 - 220 for max bclk, so 3870-3960Mhz.
Would be nice if I could get a solid 4Ghz at 222-223 bclk.

Here are some motherboards who managed to overclock this CPU

AsusP6T Mobo, 3.2GHz @200BLCK, @1.25V, 3200-4000Turbo
Asus P6T Mobo, 200-205BCLK, 3200-4000Turbo
MSI X58A-GD45, 200-215BLCK, 3600-4000Turbo
Bloodrage Mobo, <150BLCK
Gigabyte X58-UD3R Mobo, 3.4GHz@190BLCKx18
Asus X58 Sabertooth Mobo, 3816@212BCLKx18 @ 1.3V
Asus P6X58-E WS Mobo, 3.6GHz@200BCLKx12 @ 1.26V

Please someone? I really don't want to buy a new motherboard! Thats $200 i do not want to spend.
Or can someone please point me to a tutorial so i can make it myself ?

Here is my bios i am running now with SLIC 2.1 included. Is it possible to check this one if the CPU is supported and also if my memory is supported? Not sure if its this Quick path interface (QPI) problem as its 2 in this processor and one in regular Core I7.

Please someone? Or do I have to buy another old mobo ?

Ok now this is funny. I can force to set the FSB from the Setfsb application. Now i can at least force the FSB from 133 to 150. Then its pretty unstable. In bios i cant do anything

Also in this application I see a lot of red hexnumbers which i do not know what it is?
I add some pictures below and will hope that someone maybe take this task :/

Is there any other place i can turn to? I know i am asking for help but can i atleast get a reply if its a big or small job or even possible? Thanks guys/Girls!

*UPDATE*

Well i found out what was wrong at last! After countless of hours it was just memory settings. As i am pretty new to this manual overclocking i started to change the numbers on trc and trfc and also set the multi to 8x on the memory 16x on uncore as it obviously need to be twice as high then the memory multi.

8X memory multi =16x uncore multi
200BCLK = 1600MHZ

trc 45
trfc 90

CPU core voltage 1.200
Mem voltage 1.64
Qpi voltage 1.26

------------------------------------------
OK well I have tried that! Guess I have to sell this then :/

Thanks for your information! Gigabyte said it wasn't supported. Their product and they obviously don't know what they are talking about!
I have been trying all 6 sticks as a single one! Must be something wrong with my Motherboard as i cant set +1mhz BCLK before I get fail to boot in bios!

D.m. this was bad news! Sad
