Ok but We have to help this friend before to understand what's happen, may be
He didn't flashed before original and then modded or He have set a Supervisor in bios.
Better wait him for the answers.

Hi,

I tried the new one that you linked and it didn't work. Same results. Flashing power LED, fan turning on after a while, but nothing changing.

I'm at my girlfriend's right now so I'm limited to a generic USB stick. I will try at home with my Patriot branded ones and reply again. I can't tell if it's working because her USB drive doesn't have LED to indicate activity.

Does it matter if my BIOS is in legacy or UEFI? I have disabled supervisor password as well, and I'm running v2.24 original BIOS from Acer. The only thing that I can think of is that it's either an incompatible USB drive or that the reason it's not flashing is because I switched the original HDD with an ADATA SSD via cloning, and I deleted the recovery partitions (but I backed them up via Windows 8 Recovery Tool).

Is there another way to flash the BIOS instead of via USBImage? Perhaps something like the original Insyde tool?

Also, BDMaster, thank you for the help.

But I hope you did not misunderstand me.

My laptop is fine, it is not bricked.

I tried to flash what sovem uploaded, but it didn't work. When I pressed FN+ESC and turned on the computer, I got a black screen with blinking power LED. I rebooted the computer, but the new BIOS was not flashed.

Now I realize why you told me to flash original BIOS.

Oh, also. I am trying to flash modded V2.25 BIOS. Do I need to update to V2.25 first?

Oh my GOD Hurra !!!!

I was thinking that your laptop was bricked !
But the problem is not flashed !!!!
It's right ?

Yes You have update bios to the same version modded You want flash !!!!!
I was afraid for this mod as I said to Sovem that He has to mod setuputility too to show Power and Advanced, so i feel responsible for him !
And You wrote so bad Sad
The new pc have a write memory lock too that inhibit the Recovery then We have to do a test for it and if It is so We change method.
regards

Yup, the problem is that it doesn't seem to want to flash.

I posted this thread to another forum, perhaps someone there (NotebookReview) can see if they can get it working.

For the backup program, I realized I can set the backup parameters. I set the custom size to 4096K seeing as the modified ZRQ.FD file on the USB stick is 4096KB.

Have You updated your bios version to 2.25 before to do backup and test ?
Anyone Would know that on bios update user have before run original update to set
bios with new paramters and then flash modded.

So if we want to flash v. 2.25 we have to get before orinal v.2.25 into eeprom and then flash the modded one !

Now flash original bios v.2.25 and retry to flash modded one by Recovery Procedure and then if You get always error do a backup and a test on v.2.25 !

Let me know, please.

Hi,

The backup and test files above are for V2.25

I believe there's a write protection enabled on this firmware. I remember reading that donovan6000 said V2.xx firmwares for Acer are protected?

EDIT: http://www.sendspace.com/filegroup/cwHc9...s9IDcDCqnA - I have uploaded the files again after a new retest - I'm not sure for the size of the backup, so I used 4MB

That's only a result from the protection implemented by InsydeFlash.exe and Insyde Secure Flash. Flashing it with the recovery method, which is what BDMaster is trying to do, can bypass Insyde Secure Flash Big Grin

Oh okay, so it's normal to see "Error 201: FPTw.exe cannot be run on the current platform. Please contact your vendor. " when I run the FPT test?

I kept believing there's write protection for the BIOS.. Did a lot of Googling and did stumble upon a DOS way of flashing? Also it's for another board. http://biosrepo.wordpress.com/2013/02/20...k-and-dos/

EDIT: When I open my BIOS with Andy's tool, it says the recovery name is ZRQ.F whereas the file on the modded BIOS is ZRQ.FD. I duplicated the FD file and renamed the extension to F and tested, but to no avail. I think either at this point either the modded BIOS didn't work or the BIOS simply isn't flashing.

Hi friend,

I don't know what bios You opened asthey are all encapsulated now, but You'r right your recovery bios name is ZRQ.fd !
So if You take the Sovem bios mod You will find into that folder two files :

1. USBimge.exe
2. USBimg32.ima

First is used o clone from USB Image file 32 GB (virtual) to a physical USB stick (it's a smart trick)m then sencond is USB Image file to write on your real USB stick.
So if You will open second file by WinImage or better by UltaIso, Youìll find your Bios file ZRQ.fd modded by Sovem.

Normally It's possible bypass SevureFlash with recovery mode, but lately many users have problem with it !
Now We are finding the cause, as many of you don't do some normal procedures as update their bios with original before flashig modded, or disable secureBoot, or Others.
We have to do attempts and try to not brick yours laptop !
As there are progs to disable write memory lock, but We don't know the result too, It's to experiment.
If do You agree and want to try I will happy to do some tests with You and could know finally when use it and where.
A few explanation to that Donovan said before !
We can use Recovery and get this method that permit to generalize the mod so We have to give to You all 1 file for all laptop which have the same bios, otherwise we have to ask a backup done by FPT mod this and give your own to reflash by FPT, and when there is an upgrade from 1.x to 2.x We have to force this without safe.
There are more FPT version and they are specific for more platfoms, so We have o find the right one for every your laptop and We do the tests, so for your is good the 9.5.14 :

It mans that only 9.5.14 version is good for your Platform, but it's error 280 eeprom memory write protect !

So We have to use a trick program to bypass this as it is done into Descriptor Region Eeprom (it's hard !!!)
CodeRush descrypt it and Svl7 wrote tools, but I would semplify the things as possible, but I cannot.

Now I will do the mod on your bios backup to try reflash it by FPT, but as result said error 280 We will get it too when will try to reflash.
If so then We are in troubles as We have to try progs trick and pray it works.
