[REQUEST] Acer Aspire 1410 Bios unlock

I have an Acer Aspire 1410-8804 laptop and would like to have the Advanced Bios features unlocked if possible. I'm not smart enough to do it myself, and am hoping someone can help out. Here is the requested info from the sticky:

Thanks fleipejfc. By any chance do you have a x86 version. I only have 3 GB of RAM and 32 bit Win7 seems to run better with only that much memory. I would guess from the title of your file that it needs to be run in a 64 bit version of windows. I guess I could image the 32 bit install, install the 64 bit version and run the bios file, but a 32 bit version would be best. I understand if you don't have one. Thanks again.

There are many reasons to run 32 bit vs 64 bit. I have many legacy programs/hardware device drivers/etc. that will not run in Win7 64 bit. I could run them in a virtual machine with 32 bit Win7 installed, which I will do when I get more memory, but that virtual machine ran much too slowly when I tried it with just 3 GB of ram. I did not make my decision to run 32-bit arbitrarily.

Also, you have your facts wrong. Win 7 32-bit has a ram limit of about 3.5 GB, not 2 GB. The 2 GB limit applies to Win7 starter edition only, but I have win 7 ultimate edition and I can access all 3 GB of the memory I have installed. The limitation is not really a 32-bit limitation, but rather a kernel limitation and there is a way to mod Win 7 to use a kernel that allows access to up to 64 or 128 GB of ram. There is a 4 GB limit per application, but the system itself can access much more with the kernel patch, and each process can have a full 4 GB to operate. Well I imaged my drive (2 hours), loaded 64 bit win7 (30 minutes) and tried the file from felipejfc. There does not appear to be any change in the BIOS menus.. All I can see that it does is change the SATA mode from IDE to AHCI. That option was already available anyway. There aren't any options visible that aren't in the stock BIOS.

So, the original request still stands if there is anyone that can help.

This will never work nativelly, it uses dirty workarounds, it's better to use x64 as it's backwards compatibilities are very good.
see, with 32 bits the kernel can address 2^(32-1) addresses, wich is 2147483648 == 2GB it uses dirty patches to recognize more than that on 32 bit systems... anyways, here is the x86 modded:

Bios file is the same for bothe x32 or x64 folders, only difference is into Installer (libraries) x32 or x64 for the Windows 32 bit or 64 bit !
Always Bios is loaded into memory as 16 bit and start to HRV Hardware Reset Vector is an specific offset then load modules in 32 or 64 bit mode memory !
So Bios files are equal You can do an hex compare and will find They are same !

Thanks. That one worked and I now have access to all of the bios menus.

In regard to 32 bit vs 64 bit, all I can say is that the 64-bit win7 runs noticeably slower than the 32-bit win7 using the same hardware. This is both the operating system and the apps I run. I think this is due to a number of things. First, I have only 3 GB ram and 64-bit windows really wants more than that to be efficient. Second 90% of my applications are 32 bit apps and it is not uncommon for 32 bit apps to run slightly slower on the 64-bit windows OS compared to the 32-bit OS.

As for Windows 7 64-bit backward compatibility, it doesn't really matter how good it is if it doesn't work with my applications. It can be 99% backward compatible, but if you have a program that is in that 1% that isn't compatible, and you need that program then it doesn't matter that the other 99% work fine. I have several 32 bit applications that flat out will not work on 64-bit Windows. I have tried every workaround on these programs and nothing has worked other than installing them in a 32-bit virtual machine. Frankly, that just isn't an option from the testing I have done. I am hoping this is because of the ram allocation and will be rectified when I boost my ram to 8 GB at which time I will give 64-bit a try again. In order to replace the applications in question with their 64-bit versions, I would have to spend way too much money. I will be using these 32 bit apps for many many more years.

I also disagree with your math. 2^(32-1)=2147483648 is totally wrong. if you are talking about the maximum value of a 32 bit binary integer it is (2^32) -1=2147483647. Note the difference in where the parenthesis are. But this isn't even right for what you are talking about. 2^32=4294967296 (4GB) is what it should be and here is the reason. People generally start counting at 1 whereas a computer starts counting at 0, so you get that one value you subtract back. (2^32)-1 is the maximum value of a 32 bit integer, but 2^32 is the number of possible values. For example imagine a 2 bit example

00 (binary) = 0 (decimal)
01 (binary) = 1 (decimal)
10 (binary) = 2 (decimal)
11 (binary) = 3 (decimal)

are the possible values. There are 4 possible values which is 2^2, and the maximum value is (2^2)-1=3 in decimal or 11 in binary. So getting back to addressing memory in a 32 bit OS, there are 2^32 = 4294967296 (4GB) possible values. This means that the upper limit for a 32 bit system without resorting to any extraordinary means is 4 GB. Windows 7 Starter is crippled by Microsoft to only recognize 2GB, but this is something different.

In any case, thank you for the modded BIOS. It works great.
