[REQUEST] Lenovo Ideapad Z575 (54CNxxWW) BIOS Unlock
#1
Hello bios-mods team,

im new here and I heared about this homepage in guru3d forums.
I have a little problem with AMD Crossfire Dual Graphics:

In BIOS i can choose between 2 options in section "Graphic device", option1: dynamic and option2: UMA only ... at the moment option1 is activated.
In CCC i can only Activate or Disable Crossfire, cant choose the main GPU, its automatic, so i get sometimes problems with drivers because of low GPU clocks in idle mode.

So is there a way to unlock more bios options for my Notebook?
I want to choose my Graphics device in BIOS because i have a lot of Problems with the Catalyst Driver, sometimes my Notebook go automatically in idle-mode and the GPU clocks are very low (for example: 150Mhz instead of 900Mhz in my 6600m Series GPU).

Here is my systeminformation:
Notebook model: Lenovo Z575
APU: AMD A8 3500m, Quadcore CPU
GPUs: AMD HD 6600m Series + 6620G
OS: Win 7 64bit
RAM: 8 GB

BIOS Type: Unknown
BIOS Date: July 20th 2011
BIOS ID: 54CN18WW-None
BIOS OEM: 54CN18WW
Chipset: AMD 1705 rev 0
SuperIO: Unknown
Manufacturer: LENOVO
Motherboard: 1299D5G
current bios DL link: http://download.lenovo.com/UserFiles/Dri...CN18WW.exe
best regards

Hello, good people. How is your life?
I just joined this forum Wink and I kindly request an unlock for my bios:

1. bios type: Phoenix SecureCore Tiano (screen pictures of it are below)
2. direct link to BIOS (6.6MB .exe): http://download.lenovo.com/UserFiles/Dri...CN18WW.exe
indirect link to BIOS (downloads page): http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/research/hints-or-tips/detail.page?&DocID=HT073098
3. this bios is on my laptop Lenovo IdeaPad Z575 (aka Z575am) with AMD A6-3400M CPU (aka APU)
more info/pics of this exact laptop:
here: https://picasaweb.google.com/theatrical7
and here: http://cryingcabbage.imgur.com/
Note: I lost the passwords(keypass2 db) for those accounts(google and imgur) and thus avoid contacting me thereWink
Those pictures are now 2 years old, but here are some pictures from today with the current bios/screenshots:
http://imgur.com/a/buk20
the bios screens ended up at the end, pls scroll to the bottom...
also here's the cpu-z screens which would show the motherboard chipset (might be useful for more info on the bios, guessing)
http://imgur.com/a/PyzjF
(I'm posting all this info because I like details, better to have them than having to ask for them later)

4. Reason for needing the bios unlock: I need to be able to change the memory timings (but also would be glad to have any other hidden tabs, menus and options unlocked too, just for the idea of it), because I am planning on getting two sticks of 8gb each to put in dual channel, and I am not sure if they will work out of the box. I am aware that Lenovo says 8gb is max(on this laptop), however CompuRam/Speicherbauer people already have a dual channel kit (2x8GB =16GB - PC3-10600 DDR3 1333 MHz 204pin SO-DIMM DDR3) for sale which they guarantee 100% will work with my model: Z575 - they can easily be found by search I won't link to it so it's not seen as ad/spam)
I am considering one of the two memories to buy:
Corsair 2x8GB DDR3 1866MHz Vengeance CMSX16GX3M2B1866C10
and
Kingston 2x8GB DDR3 1866MHz KHX18LS11P1K2/16
(searching for their part number reveals more exact info, again I avoid linking to them, not sure if it's ok to link too much)

So i am not exactly sure if these will be accepted, although I am well aware they won't be seen above 1333Mhz (so they will downclock), but I want to have them working stable at 1333Mhz (and maybe in the future if I get new laptop I can still use these same memories)
I am not even sure if they will allow the laptop to power on and enter bios, maybe they will(maybe all memories will) but they could be unstable, unless some memory timings tweaking I could do in the bios... I don't know.

I would really appreciate it if someone could unlock it.
Naturally, I would post lots of pics and feedback about it. (for historical/consistency reasons)

Thank you very much in advance.

Hi riend,
Here U go :
http://www.google.it/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=2&cad=rja&ved=0CC0QFjAB&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.lenovo.com%2Fshop%2Famericas%2Fcontent%2Fuser_guides%2Fz575_ug_en.pdf&ei=p9TxUuW4LofoywPbm4LIAw&usg=AFQjCNFfjwiZsT6KVUPP0ngTRRKKxtpQ_Q&bvm=bv.60799247,d.bGQ

There is a service manual to give a look on your laptop.
About memory ram so-dimm for pc the max timing setup is giving from PCI-bus and FSB bus timing in Your case the max is 1333Mhz otherwise You have to overclock all, but the risk to heat CPU is Higer !
You can buy So-Dimm at higer frequencies, but these will crap at FSB pc max limit so You will use these al 1333Mhz.
http://www.directron.com/fsbguide.html
About average of amount of Ram You can take on laptop is OS depending, for Win7 32 bit limit is 4GB (real 3.6GB) for Win7 64Bit 16GB (or higer it depends on couple so-dimm ram e.g. 32 + 32 = 64 GB), same for Win8 !
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pqN1m5zhnww
The i86 architecure is for max 4 GB :
you see, the reason why 32-bit machines are limited to 4GB is because 4 giga is 2^32.
(2^10 = kilo, 2^20 = mega, 2^30 = giga, 2^32 = 2^30 * 2^2 = 4 giga)
so the i64 is 16 exabytes of memory 2^64, or more than 4 billion times that of its precursor, but there aren't in stock this kind, max 128 GB and it cost too much !
So after this clarify, we talk about menu unlock for your issue You don't need it but
it's possible I think.
Here U go and ask to Sovem :

Hello BDMaster. Thank you very much for all this info. As I've only slept for 2 hours and half right now, I will look at this again when I wake up(going back to sleep now). Just wanted to let you know that I've just seen it and will take extra diligence to assimilate it. I also have the user guide manual already printed on paper (also the hardware maintenance manual which is on par with the youtube video that you linked - thank you very much - will watch fully when I wake up later).
And I've just realized that for some reason searching the forum didn't work("Loading...", likely something wrong on my side) and my trying to search via startpage(I don't use google, i use startpage which supposedly uses google underneath) didn't find any Z575 results I assumed there were no Z575 requests or anything related thus far, however using ixquick(uses more search engines underneath) performing the same search(z575 site:bios-mods.com) right now yielded more (than 0) results (showing only unlock related ones):
http://www.bios-mods.com/forum/Thread-Un...enovo-Z575
http://www.bios-mods.com/forum/Thread-Le...ck-request
the last one is the important one: "Your Platform Setup Module has no advanced options embedded." (- TimeWalker) which makes me kinda sad, but it's acceptable..

also I didn't think to search for just the bios name: 54CN18WW site:bios-mods.com
which yields one extra thread (aside from the actually useful one that you mentioned):
http://www.bios-mods.com/forum/Thread-RE...st-removal

I guess what I am trying to say:I am sorry for not searching properly before this Smile

I'll look more deeper into all this later, really thank you very much for your reply and detailed info, very much appreciated!

Peace.

PS: On another note, I've plans for using K10Stat to undervolt (not necessarily also overclock) the CPU, I guess there won't be any options in bios to do this anyway(if what TimeWalker says is true, and I've no reason to doubt), but it's ok with k10stat, to test stability with some lower than normal voltages and then maybe I'll find some way to do what k10stat does but on linux (since that's what I'd prefer to be using instead of win7, but i'll have win7 (re)installed temporarily just for this)

I will definitely be running a 64bit system such as arch linux 64bit and/or win7 64bit (currently linux mint 15, 64bit and win7 64bit reinstalled for testing k10stat and be able to run winflash if needed), OS memory limitation will not be an issue.
I am also aware that the RAM will not be seen at more than 1333Mhz, and I've no plans on overclocking stuff to increase that(but I might be interested to mess with the memory latency timings, should this option exist unlocked in bios). But I am ok with this.

The only problem is, will that memory be seen at 1333Mhz ? or will it be less ? or will the CAS Latency be 9 (as per jedec) or will it be 8 as per SPD (for kingston for example) and in case it's 8, will it be stable or will it BSOD from time to time, or worst case: won't even allow the laptop to start up(ie. black screen, no POST) ?
The memory controller (in the APU) is limited to 1333Mhz, which is fine. But should I upgrade the processor to an APU with MMC of 1600Mhz (for example) then I'd be happy to know I could still use the same RAM which will then run at faster timings (I would hope)..
The CompuRam people know that their memories 2x8GB (16GB dual channel) work for my system, and some other people said that kingston and corsair were unstable on my system but i've too few info on this to know what to believe. However I've read random posts about amd mmc in general not being so acceptable of any variants of ram. Clearly the corsair and kingston that I listed were specifically made/tested for intel systems for they don't even mention amd + that PnP feature for kingston, however Corsair does say in their sodimm memory buyer's guide that "Corsair makes the high-performance memory you need, whether you have an Intel® or AMD® based laptop"... but on the Vengeance memory in the table they list only 1600 and 1866 as Speeds Available which makes me think that maybe they didn't test 1333 and that one could be unstable who knows, or it's assumed that anything below that is way more stable than normal to even bother mentioning it, also for marketing reasons they wouldn't wanna mention 1333 there or else customers wouldn't want to buy the first one in the table (Value Select memory)

I was hoping to get the latency timing for memory available in bios so that just in case let's say it would be (1333Mhz) CL9 by default, then I could try CL8 (in kingston's case they say it would work), or the opposite, if it were CL8 AND it would be unstable, I could try setting it to CL9 from bios and see if that's stable.
My only concern with the memories is really that they could be unstable or be lower than 1333Mhz CL9-9-9 (which is what my current 4G is at). If they are stable at 1333Mhz and CL9 (even though preferably CL8 as kingston advertises) then I am a happy camper Big Grin
But sure the more menus unlocked I'll have in bios the happier I would feel, even if they don't relate to the ram latency timings.

The kingston modules have that PnP feature which only intel based boards can use(quote: "Note: PnP implementation is only possible in configurations that include a BIOS that supports the PnP function. Your maximum speed will be determined by your BIOS."), so my amd one won't see the DDR3-1333 CL8-8-8 @1.35V or 1.5V which is "retrievable" via that PnP feature(as they state in the .pdf), and I am not really sure if it's in the SPD table, in which case I'd figure the bios would default to some jedec standard or something like 1333 CL9-9-9 unless maybe kingston has that in SPD (not really sure I'm getting this concept right) ... Big Grin
My APU's MMC supports the 1.35V (LowVoltage) and 1.5V variants - although the current 4gb dimm is running at 1.5V ...

Thank you for the Sovem link but I am not sure how to ask him, it seems inappropriate to ask on that thread(because it's about WL removal), maybe I should PM him? but PM-ing seems kinda intrusive, he probably gets 1 million of them already Big Grin So, could you maybe elaborate a bit on what did you mean to ask Sovem? ("Here U go and ask to Sovem : ") I guess I am hoping he sees the OP and makes a post about what could be unlocked, and maybe I can hope it's not what I "think" TimeWalker said: that there's practically nothing to unlock in the menus

I have seen that link; you posted it before, right above in current thread
But what does this mean, if it worked for whitelist removal does it work for unlocking the extra bios menus/options ? Or does it mean that it's just confirmed to work to flash it, after it's modified ? that is, flashing the modified bios is expected to work.
I was actually contemplating removing the wireless card entirely, except that the [censored] got stripped(so I can't unscrew it) and I gave up on this Smile

ok trying to post this i realize the site went completely dead ("Connecting..." takes forever) but other sites work meanwhile. EDIT: ok it worked eventually Smile

EDIT: as a side note, using the SPD on this picture http://i.imgur.com/7isvozL.jpg
and the wiki, I was able to deduce that the current Elpida ram that I have can handle the following CAS Latencies: 5,6,7,8,9
this is just random infoSmile

hey guys, it's been a week, I can no longer test this BIOS even if it were made available/unlocked, that is I don't want to risk it anymore now, because I got my ram and it works (1833Mhz ram working at 1333Mhz CL8, it's that kingston that i mentioned) therefore I wouldn't want to risk bricking my bios anymore - besides I don't need the in bios options anymore... However if there's cpu P-states options in this bios, I'd be willing to try that.

I guess what I'm saying is, ignore my request.

Thanks for understanding.

Hello,

I'm having trouble with the BIOS in my laptop.
I want to enable AMD-V Hardware Virtualization but the option is nowhere to be found in the BIOS. I know my CPU supports it, yet the option is not there.

Please help me by modifying my BIOS to show the option.

Here you can find the original BIOS : BIOS

These are the specs for my CPU : SPECS

Do you need any more info?

Thank you!
