I managed to transplant Radeon 6650M VBIOS to Vostro's 6630M. I extracted the VBIOS file from ACER 7750G BIOS, edited it to make sure the voltages and clocks corresponded to those of 6630M, and flashed it. Everything worked fine (except that the card ran too hot without any performance boost). I then tried 6650M VBIOS from Packard Bell EasyNote LS11, which has switchable graphics disabled. It flashed fine and switching also worked.
This, along with some experiments on Windows 7, has led me to believe the following:

1. AMD Switchable graphics do NOT depend on AMD or Intel VBIOS.
2. Aero lag at Windows 7 startup in fixed mode is not specific to 6630M. It probably happens on the majority of PX4.0-enabled laptops that support fixed mode.

Update: disregard what I said earlier about PX and non-PX VBIOS. It seems to be totally unrelated as I was able to flash 6650M VBIOS extracted from a laptop that doesn't even have switchable graphics.

Hello!
I have an Acer 5552g with a 6650m . I'm having some overheating issues and would like to mod the vbios undervolting the gpu to 0,90v in order to solve my issue.
I don't know hot to extract & mod my vbios.
Would you please help me?
I'd be really grateful!SmileSmile
Thank you very much indded,
Francesco

Hey, is there an option to disable hyperthreading in modded bios itt ? And if not, would it be even possible ? I'd delightfully disable the crap out of it. Thanks.

Yes, there is such an option
Hello guys, i'm new from here, just a few question, my laptop is dell inspiron N4110, which has intel/amd (hd3000&&AMD6630m) inside. The bios is Phoenix EFI, version A12.

I know the dell uses dynamic hybrid gpu switch in the windows, so i can't see static switch method. such as, i can disable/enable one of them in the bios. i don't know whether there is a chance exits to unlock this feature by modding bios?

I just want use igpu only, cause i like to install OS X, but the distracted gpu isn't working.

Thanks in advance!
Hi,
Regarding unlocked BIOS, you could try and there are indeed some options, but on Vostro 3450 they do nothing. Since N4110 is almost the same machine as Vostro 3450, I doubt any of them would work on yours either.
If your system does not support manual GPU switching even in Windows, there seems to be a way to turn it on with an SSDT edit, look a few pages earlier in this topic where I posted an example (look for SFUN). However, I'm not quite sure how manual switching would work on OS X.
I've been doing some research on PX4.0 switchable graphics (however, my goal was the opposite - to disable the Intel GPU), but unfortunately I couldn't find any clue. However, I heard you can disable the discrete GPU using DSDT/SSDT edits. Not sure how, though.

Thanks for reply, i also do a search with google, currently the optimus of nvidia/intel hybrid combination can use DSDT/SSDT method to disable discrete graphic. But it doesn't work on intel/amd.
Hi I am new here and wanted to double check before I flashed my bios.
I have a Vostro 3450 with Windows 8 64-bit Dell bios A13 and still have issues with startup (takes forever unless just out of sleep which works fine), and I cannot hibernate.
Will a modified bios help?
If so, which one should I use?

Thanks,
Nathan
Hi all,

I've unlocked the BIOS on my Dell Vostro 3450 (Version A11-mod) and would like some help/advice selecting the proper settings for what I want to do.

The internal display is badly damaged and basically unusable so the laptop lives attached to an external monitor/kbd/mouse. This works fine as long as I'm booted into an OS. But when I want to change operating systems (I maintain several on this machine), I need to open the lid and press Fn+F1 in order to display the boot manager on the external monitor. Doing this several times a day quickly becomes tiresome - and I still can't see the entire OS boot sequence on the external display.

I'd really like to completely disable the internal display and direct all graphical output through the VGA port to the external monitor. Once I unlocked the BIOS, I saw several options under Advanced/System Agent/Graphics that looked promising but everything I tried either did nothing or resulted in boot hanging at POST (Dell splash screen).

There must be some way to accomplish this seemingly simple objective. Has anyone here done this or knows enough about the various settings to make an educated guess? Any help or advice will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

(this machine does not have the switchable graphics, only the onboard Intel HD 3000 graphics)
