Important Information Regarding CPU Upgrade Requests (A README) - TheWiz - 12-29-2009 12:46 AM

Requirements for request:
-bios link
-whats happens: I.e. It doesn't boot / it shows an error (which? post a picture)
-screenshot from aida64>motherboard>cpuid
-CPU spec code

As we continue to make progress in the CPU requesting process, it has been determined as of now that in order for us to try and complete your mod, we need to use code from a board that has the CPU support you want, and the SAME CHIPSET. While this can sometimes be hard and maybe impossible, and while CPU upgrades are still 50/50, we ask that you provide us not only a link to your bios, but a bios that you think has the potential to be a donor bios. We do not require this as of yet, but if we do not see an attempt, your request will not be answered.

UPDATE: I have discovered that in most cases, ACPITBL is not relevant to upgrading the CPU. Through using hex editors and non-compressed code, I have come up with a whole new strategy, and while you should still post a link with the board you want support from, the risky ACPITBL issues will no longer be relevant. 1-27-10

TheWiz

HELP ME

RE: Important Information Regarding CPU Upgrade Requests (A README) - Brainiarc7 - 03-10-2013 06:03 AM

Hello,

I own an Acer TravelMate 5740G with Discrete AMD Radeon HD 5650 and Intel Core i5 520M. I tried upgrading to a Core i7 840QM and upon doing so, the system BIOS can no longer detect the dGPU, probably due to a microcode issue.

My upgrade was motivated by a Toshiba Satellite A500-1GR user who successfully did the same, and the systems share a similar BIOS, from InsydeH20.

IIs it possible to mod the Acer TravelMate 5740G BIOS to include the Microcode Update needed to run that processor correctly?

I'd request that:

The BIOS mods removes the assertion that the laptop has an IGP, and that it uses the CPUs PCIe Controller for graphics, not the PCH.

On first boot into BIOS with the CPU, a core i7 840qm, the BIOS asserts that the system has an Integrated Intel GPU, which is false. Secondly, it cannot pass the Discrete GPU information to the OS, as noted when trying to boot straight into Windows 7.

The BIOS mod should address that.
