HP EliteDesk 800 G2 SFF & 7th gen CPU
#1
Hi There bios modding gurus,

My question is can You mod the Bios of hp elitedesk 800 g2 SFF, sn: czc62785yy, to support 7th gen Intel CPU, for example I5 7400. I guess it is about adding the specific microcode to the bios, but i am not quite sure. If You think it can be done i can provide full bios dumps

Best regards

Post screenshots of first (CPU) & third (Mainboard) tabs of CPU-Z with supported CPU.
BTW: adding microcode doesn't add support for new CPUs.

I can't help you to add support for Kaby Lake to this BIOS.

Hey DeathBringer,

can you explain what the problem is with this board why you can not add Microcode for 7th gen CPU's?

Does it require more than just a change in micrcode to make 7th gen CPU's work on this Motherboard?

To add support for Kaby Lake you need to disassembly, analyse and patch too many modules in BIOS. As I already told: adding microcode doesn't add support for new CPUs.

But what about Cofee time mod ? as far as I know, Cofee like i3 and Kaby lake i5 are built on the same substrate . By manipulating the Cofee time program, they add microcode support for these processors... and Skylake and KabyLake are very similar processors (technologically) ... Another thing is the Q170 chipset... I have not seen ready-made modifications of motherboards with this chipset... The Z170 is another matter.

CPUs with Coffee Lake and Kaby lake cores have the same model number (158) in CPUID, but different stepping. So the patch was simple.
But CPUs with Skylake have different model number - 94. So the patch is very difficult.

Also I think that the microcode updates are encrypted. The Coffe Lake mod also only worked on Asrock boards. OEM BIOS's are signed too. So no easy modding and flashing possible.

Too bad! I was hoping to upgrade the CPU on my old Q170 board.

The lesson to learn here is to avoid OEM boards altogether. HP deliberately provided no BIOS update to enable 7th gen CPU support on the Elitedesk G2 eventhough it would be posisble from a hardware side, so that you have to buy a new model generation alltogether.

I'm gonna avoid OEM boards in the future alltogether.

Greetings forum members,

Firstly, I would like to apologize if this is posted in the wrong place. If it is, please feel free to move it where it belongs.

I am trying to get an HP EliteDesk 800 G2 SFF to work with a Pentium Gold G4560 but to no avail. While the system works with i5 - 6XXX (Skylake) it does not work with the Pentium, although it is also Skylake, which is really puzzling.

I was therefore wondering if it would be possible to help in modding the BIOS file to add support for the CPU.

Link added for convenience: https://support.hp.com/th-en/drivers/hp-...pc/7633277

Thanks,
Ppanickk
