Same problem, hangs before booting OS.
I tried switching the wlan cards at the GRUB prompt, and the Intel card works well, including the wlan switch.
Of course it's useless since I would have to switch cards everytime I shutdown the netbook.

Also, I don't know if it matters, but this card has integrated bluetooth and the original one does not.

lspci -nnv output:
Network controller [0280]: Intel Corporation Centrino Advanced-N 6235 [8086:088e] (rev 24)

I found the USB IDs of the integrated usb bluetooth and the intel ID:
Original: 0489:e00d
Intel: 8087:07da

Maybe there is a usb whitelist too?

Still hangs before booting OS, tested with pins 36-38 (USB) taped and untaped.

The solution to my problem was to turn off Data Execution Prevention (DEP) for WinFlash. Once I did that the modified BIOS flashed properly and I'm now up and running with an Intel 7260ac.

Hi,

I would like to request some aid in getting an Intel 6235 to work with this netbook. camiloml's modification from another thread doesn't seem to be enough in my case.

I have the same problem as nidorin006. Windows 8.1 won't boot with the new card. I can see the boot screen for a while, then the loading circle disappears, fans start spinning and nothing happens anymore. Safe mode doesn't boot either.

Linux boots, however the new card isn't listed with 'lspci'.

The card itself should be fine. I can boot into Windows with the old card, replace it with the new one and it is detected. To get WiFi activated, I still need to tape pin 20.

There is no kind of error message when booting with the new card - neither with the original, nor with the patched BIOS.

Additionally I modified the original BIOS image myself by replacing the PCI ID of the old Ralink card with the new Intel one, but it doesn't change anything.
I also tried looking into the disassembled module and trying to understand the changes that were made by camiloml, but I didn't get very far.

Netbook model: Lenovo IdeaPad S205
Original BIOS (4BCN24WW) v24: click
Affected modules: DxeOemDriver (608FBD1D-15E1-40C4-9443-662ECC0C07AA), maybe others
PCI ID of original card: 1814:3090, 17AA:F101 (0x14189030AA1701F1)
PCI ID of new card: 8086:088e, 8086:4060 (0x86808E0886806040)

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Sadly it behaves the same. Windows locks up during the boot process and Linux' "lspci" doesn't list the card.

Another observation: I can boot Windows successfully, if I turn off WiFi in BIOS. The card is not listed in device manager, of course.

I see you modified the whitelist and added the new card. I basically tried the same, only I replaced the original WiFi card 0x14189030AA1701F1 with 0x86808E0886806040 at the very bottom of the list.

Most of the times I have read, that simply adding the new card to the whitelist is enough to make it work. What can the conclusion be in this case?

Thanks for the quick reply and your help.

EDIT: Here is a similar case with another notebook on MDL, without solution.

I found something else during my research. There is a sequence of similar code blocks in the module DxeOemDriver right under the whitelist, which should represent pci devices. They also have the matching subsystem vendor and device IDs, as you can see in the screenshot.

Does anyone know if this is some kind of whitelist, initialization property storage or whatever?

What I suspect right now, is that one of these could be the WiFi card.
