Intel D945GCZ: CPU Upgrade
#1
it currently only support pentium D/p4/ Celerons/PD dual core.

it is a socket 775, let me knwo if you need any more info.

is it possible to add microcode to the bios and enable pentium dualcore support. i thought it was odd that a similair D945GCCR would support but not this one. maybe just copy(its alittle more complex than that, of course) microcodes from GCCR to my GCZ?

heres the GCZ bios: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/28052258/NT4131P.BIO

and GCCR: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/28052258/CR0060.BIO

i have been able to open them with ultraedit, so they are able to be edited.

thanks!

Hello,

Looking to upgrade to a better CPU.  The board only documents Pentium D, people report E4xxx & E6xxx successful.  Can someone look over the BIOS and see if a Wolfdale-3M will fly?  The bus speed is the same.

bios link: https://downloadcenter.intel.com/downloa...94510J-86A-
-whats happens: haven't purchased the CPU yet, want to be sure there is cause for $60 investment.
-CPU spec code, trying for:
Core 2 Duo E7600
SLGTD "(R0, with VT)"
 or
Core 2 Duo E7500
SLB9Z

Maybe an E6700 (SL9S7, SL9ZF) can be verified if all else fails?  Thanks in advance.

D945GCZ is based on 945G. You can read the list of supported CPU. So no quad-core CPU is supported.
I've analysed latest BIOS (NT4131P.BIO) for microcodes:
Code:
Offset   Size Version Date       CPUID
0x0BE1C4 1C00 017     04/21/2005 000F34 (Prescott D0)
0x0BFDC4 1400 017     04/22/2005 000F41 (Prescott E0)
0x0C11C4 0800 005     04/21/2005 000F43 (Prescott N0)
0x0C19C4 0C00 006     04/21/2005 000F44 (Smithfield A0)
0x0C25C4 0C00 003     04/21/2005 000F47 (Smithfield B0)
0x0C31C4 0800 003     04/21/2005 000F49 (Prescott G1)
0x0C39C4 0800 004     12/14/2005 000F4A (Prescott R0)
0x0C41C4 0C00 00F     12/15/2005 000F62 (Presler B1)
0x0C4DC4 0C00 004     12/23/2005 000F64 (Presler C1)
0x0C59C4 0800 00B     05/10/2007 000F65 (Presler D0)
So no officially support for Wolfdale and Conroe.
Give me links where "people report E4xxx & E6xxx successful".

I realized not to expect the quad-core after I saw the higher TDPs.  The reports were here: http://www.tomshardware.com/answers/id-2...-bios.html .  I now notice he is talking about an OEM BIOS and doesn't have stock.  I necro'd and pm'd him for more information.

He responded just a few minutes later. I have a Gateway board, hoping it is the right BIOS. Cant find it on their site, I will search the web. http://www.driverfilesdownload.com/drive...j-15a-0052 or plenty of google results, GT5018E is the pc model, I searched GT5018E bios on google. Does this support them?

I've analysed GT5018E BIOS (NT0052P.BIO) for microcodes:
Code:
Offset   Size Version Date       CPUID
0x0BBD1C 1C00 017     04/21/2005 000F34 (Prescott D0)
0x0BD91C 1400 017     04/22/2005 000F41 (Prescott E0)
0x0BED1C 0800 005     04/21/2005 000F43 (Prescott N0)
0x0BF51C 0C00 006     04/21/2005 000F44 (Smithfield A0)
0x0C011C 0C00 003     04/21/2005 000F47 (Smithfield B0)
0x0C0D1C 0800 003     04/21/2005 000F49 (Prescott G1)
So it has less microcodes then original.

The Tom's Hardware poster said his model was a GCL.  That board is not listed on Intel's site with this board.  Here it is: GCL BIOS @ Intel .  Any idea if the board is compatible?  Any chance of compatibility / a crossflash? I realize now this may be a long shot.

I think you can't boot CPU with Conroe core on D945GCZ.
But D945GCL has microcodes in BIOS (CL0034P.BIO) for supporting Conroe core. But no chance for Wolfdale!
Only D945GNT, D945GTP, D945GBO, D945GPM are compatible with your motherboard. I can't find any successful attempt to run CPU with Conroe core on these motherboards.
