Hi, I have a Compaq Presario V5200 series (V5207NR). I wanted to add Core Duo T2450 or Core 2 Duo T5600 Support to the BIOS.

I have tried swapping both processor in the laptop but the computer boot up with black screen.

I assume there's a CPU lock in the bios. The Motherboard is a Socket M (478 pin) Intel 943GML chipset. It is known to support Intel Core Duo @ 533MHZ up to T5300 CPU. IT has also been reported that Core 2 Duo 667MHz CPU.

There are several Presario V5200 series that uses the same motherboard but running on the Core Duo T2050 CPU.

Can you guys help me on how to add cpu supports on the bios?

Thank you very much I greatly appreciated.
post a link to you bios and post a link to a bios from the same vendor that uses the cpu you want (but the board as you say does indeed support 667MHz cpu's all the way up to the t7600)

Hi Mick, thank you for the fast reply!

This is the link to the Compaq DV5207NR BIOS

This is the link to the HP DV6365US Laptop BIOS that uses the Core 2 Duo T5600. I believe the motherboard is either a 943/945 GML Chipset.

Thank you very much for all your help!
I just found out that they both uses Phoenix Bios and both has the "de-featured" bios menu. I was able extract and open the file but i have no idea how to inject the CPU Microcode to the 5207NR Bios.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Hi JTCIN2U,

I have taken the CPU Microcode out of the DV6365 bios and added it into the V5207NR bios.

You may flash this mod at your own risk! Let me know how you go!

i looked for hidden options but there's nothing in there to unlock sorry! Sad

Hi JTCIN2U,

Did you flash your BIOS with the file kindly supplied by 1234s282 and is your new processor now recognised and working correctly, please?

I am in the same position having just purchased a Core Duo processor.

Many thanks,

Following this thread, I tried to flash the BIOS with the file suggested by 1234s282 but whilst the sysytem appeared to accept it, the laptop wouldn't turn off. Eventually I pulled the power and now the laptop is dead.

I know that I accepted full resposibilty for doing this so no gripes there but I would like some suggestions and help trying to revive what is now a dead laptop please.

When I plug in the power, the HDD light comes on permanently and the DVD light comes on temporarily but that is it apart from one long and 2 short beeps which are continuos. The screen remains blank. There were never any issues before I tried the BIOS update.

I have searched for solutions and tried the CRISDISK and Phoenix floopy (and USB) routes which supposed create a bootable disk/usb stick, with the original BIOS file renamed BIOS.WPH, without success. I have started the process by holding down Win + B, plugging in the power and releasing the Win + B when the green floppy light comes on. The beeping stops and the floppy whirls for a few seconds but that is it. When trying with the USB stick, the beeps continue but nothing else.

I would be really grateful if someone can make offer any suggestions for re-flashing the BIOS - obviously it has got to be through DOS(?) rather than the usual Windows route.

Many thanks in anticipation.
Hello.

I've got a little problem with CPU upgrade with this laptop. Firstly i bought T2600 model but it was a blind shot depending on chipset (i940/943). Secondly I thought more and I checked the other models from V5200 series. Depending on number on the end there is another CPU on the board. V521X series (as I have) have an Intel Celeron M410, V522X has Intel Core Solo T1350 and the final series V523X has Intel Dual-Core T2050. The interesting thing is that all of these series have THE SAME BIOS UPDATE so, i don't know if I'm correct, this bios is the same in these models. Probably the problem is in that there is a blockade on each type of laptop for a CPU but I'm not sure. The chipset in these models probably too is the same (i940/943).

I hope that you can do something with this bios. If there isn't an appropriate microcode to start the T2050 I ask you to add it, if there is please unlock this bios if you can.

Thanks.
