Hello,

I own a Samsung Q45 Notebook (NP-Q45A002/SEG) which is from 2007.
It has a Phoenix Bios with only a few options available.

I'm especially interested in unlocking some option to enable AHCI mode for the integrated SATA controller (ICH8M-E), as it is running in IDE compatibility mode by default. Is this even possible?

The current bios (from 2008) is called 17ST and Samsung is providing an updater tool for windows. You can find it under this link: http://downloadcenter.samsung.com/conten...ST_WIN.exe

From this I extracted two files, one of them beeing the .wph file.
I attached those as zip file. Do you need any other information?

Any help would be greatly appriciated.
Thanks in advance,
Leo
Thanks for the request, I shall have a look and get back to you shortly.
Hi Ahmed,

thank you for considering my request.
In the meantime I found an inofficial bios version (18ST) from Samsung which was never released/was pulled due to bugs. (attached as zip)
This version has an option to enable AHCI. Sadly the bios itself is a little bit buggy. One of the option "pages" can not be opened (screen flickers when you try to do that).

I have 18ST running for the moment. If there is a possiblity to unlock the AHCI option in the offical bios, that would be very nice, as an unstable bios is something that frightens me a bit Smile

Kind Regards,
Leo
Hi, I'm also interested in enabling AHCI mode on my Samsung Q45, as I have installed an SSD and want to get the maximum advantage out of it.
The 17ST BIOS on the Samsung site is a self installing .exe file whereas the 18ST mentioned by Leo is a .bin and .wph file combination. How would I install 18ST and how easy to revert back to 17ST if 18ST proves to be too unstable? Any help would be appreciated.
Regards,
Sig
