Does anyone have advice on determining the actual amount of memory supported by a laptop?

I purchased a Lenovo Y470 in April. It came with 8GB of memory. At that time, Lenovo stated that it would support 16GB and Kingston's website backed this up by showing 16GB.

Recently, I intended to do the upgrade and I went back to the Kingston website. It shows only 8GB now as does Crucial.

I'm curious if this is because of actual hardware limitations or if they don't have any official memory available to support it at this size.

I'd like to verify if this will accept and work with more memory so that I may upgrade accordingly as Newegg is bound to have another sale soon enough.

Quote:In fact, PCWizard states what I'd like:
Memory Controller Information :
Memory Controller : System Memory
Location : Mainboard
Error Correction Capability : No
Number of connectors : 2
Max. Module Size : 16384 MB

Any input would be appreciated.
