Hi all, I am wondering if someone would not mind sharing a link to the tools necessary to extract the 2.04 BIOS on a y500 and then apply the necessary mod to whitelist other miniPCI Wifi cards like the Intel 7260, so as to allow 5GHz connectivity. I tried the Tech|Inferno and other resources but they either prevent the download of relevant files or the links are dead. Thank you.
Hi! You can send the link to download ?

Hi, Dudu2002! The firmware came up, thank you  Rolleyes Shy Sleepy
Right, here goes...

I am trying to unlock menus and remove the WiFi whitelist from my Y500, just like many others. In that process I've run into a few problems. I cannot for the life of me get FPTw64 to work, since it continually throw me an 'error 104'. This is the output I get:

    --- Flash Devices Found ---
    W25Q32BV    ID:0xEF4016    Size: 4096KB (32768Kb)
    MX25L1605A    ID:0xC22015    Size: 2048KB (16384Kb)

Error 104: The 2 SPI flash devices do not have compatible command sets.

I cannot read or flash my BIOS using that tool. Now, is there another solution? I've managed to backup my BIOS using BIOS Backup Toolkit 2.0, and even mod it with that "Bios Fixer 2.0" from Svl7, but as I can't use FTPw64, I have no way of flashing the modded BIOS.

Is it possible to mod the 2.04 InsydeFlash to flash the modded BIOS, maybe by modifying platform.ini?

In any case, I've added a download-link containing the following files:

The unmodded version of my BIOS, which has been backed up by using Universal BIOS Backup Toolkit.
The modded version, which has been modified by using BiosFixer_2.0.exe by Slv7.
The InsydeFlash-package, which has been downloaded from Lenovo. (My Y500 is a machine type 9541.)

Lenovo Y500 files

I really hope someone can help me.

Regards,
ShamblerDK

Works like a charm! Time to go buy a proper WiFi-card :-)

I'm seeing options in BIOS, which I've never seen in any BIOS before, and I've been using computers for 25+ years. Time to go exploring. (And no, I won't change anything related to the internal GPU.)

Just ordered an Intel Wireless-AC 7260 mPCIE. Will let you know how the upgrade goes.
