Dear All,

could someone point out how to change the UUID and serial number of a lenovo b590 bios?

a friend of mine owns multiple of the same notebooks and flashed all with a whitelist removed bios. this has set all the uuid's to the same and has set the serial numbers to the same.

the case is that the notebooks should function in a active directory envoirment and should be installed using WDS. this is impossible using the same UUID's.

any help would be greatly apreciated!!!!

Kind Regards.
What you wanna do that for??? :O

since the UUID's are all the same at the moment we cannot make them member of the active directory domain.

all that i need is to change the uuid's to random numbers (as long as they are not the same anymore it is allright)

futhermore i would like to reset the serial numbers in the biosses of those notebooks to the original ones that are allso noted on the box they were shipped in.
attach the file that you used and the serial you want to change

Hi Florin9doi,

this is the link to the modded bios: https://app.box.com/s/4ocisund28gf8l0f6f6t ,
the serial number i would like to change is: WB10946737
the UUID i would like to change is: 59085681-5249-11cb-afbf-b94eea478296

if you could point out how to change i would be glad to do this mysellf (this is since there are quite a few with the same flash in it.....)

thank you for the responce.
You will need a dmi editor; something like that: http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/detail.p...SF10-D0004

Alternative method, you can open the flash file with a hex editor and you will find the serial number at the offsets: 0x33B01A, 0x33B412, 0x33C01A, 0x33C412
and UUID at offsets: 0x33B212 and 0x33C212: http://i.imgur.com/K66KAiY.png
The bios can contain a additional checksum. Editing any value can break it.

It's your responsability!!

Hi Florin9doi,

thank you for the responce on how to change these values.
i managed to change the values succesfully in the bios and flash it back in the notebook.
however i remain puzzled at the error i'm getting on my test notebook.
maybe you could point out what i did wrong or how to correct the error.

error:
0188: Invalid RFID Serialization Information Area.
0189: Invalid RFID Configuration Information Area.

Press Esc to continue or F1 to enter Setup.

i can press F1 and my bios setup opens correctly,
i can press Esc and my laptop continues to boot normally.

i'm shure that these problems will no longer exist when i change the values back to what they were before.

could you shed some light on this issue for me?

thank you in advance!

ps: the serial number is changed at the 4 points in the bios that you noted and the UUID is changed at the 2 points that you noted.
Have you tried first method ??

Anyway, I found some checksums but there are still some unknown values: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/4209...esktop.zip
I hope you will understand.
Hi Florin9doi,

i did try the first method, this did not work for my notebook.

the checksums you found were spot on! i changed the checksums to calculate 00 for my new data.
flashed my notebook and the errors dissapered.
at this point i am generating the bios files for all of the notebooks with the problems.

allso i did check that the authentication on my active directory server is functioning correctly again. (all errors are fixed with this and the tread may be closed)

Thank you for all your help and research! you were great!
