Is there a specific reason why all of you try to mod the BIOS? I am just wondering because I find it really strange that you would want to change something which has been incorporated into the system for a specific purpose. Very curious why! I hope you let me in on this secret.

The reason that everyone wants to modify the BIOS for this model is because the most recent BIOS that HP have made available was not tested properly and contains errors. HP released a microcode update for the dc7700 (and subsequent BIOS update) to support newer intel processors (specifically family 10676 and 1067A), however, if you try and use one of those processors the multiplier value is incorrect and locked at 6x. Even though this issue has been brought to HP's attention on multiple occasions they have ignored it so people are looking to try and fix it themselves.
