Hi there. I'm a happy (early) owner of this Lenovo laptop. It was originally shipped with windows 7 home edition preinstalled. Bored of 7 I decided to upgrade to 8 knowing that others same laptop users did it easy. No chance for me. Actually my Lenovo refuse to install any windows os version, even 7 or XP. Only linux distros can be installed without problems. I got bsod and the main reason appears to be a acpi bios not fully compliant. Plus, no way now to install a 64 bit windows os (preinstalled version was 64 bit edition). On Lenovo website there si no bios or future updates. I should backup my actual bios version, but I don't know how. Currently I'm running ubuntu 13.10.
I know modders need to have acpi bios tables. Unfortunately as you can imagine, I can't run rweverything on ubuntu. I managed to get a dsdt file. That can help? Thanks you for your time.Sad
It will be great to open Advanced menu! ;-)

P.S.
BIOS Recovery:

1. Extract image of BIOS - 23CN21WW.fd (23CN18WW.fd) from 23CN21WW.exe (23CN218WW.exe) (EXE in this case - self-extract ZIP).
2. Rename 23CN21WW.fd (23CN18WW.fd) to LU15X64.fd.
3. Format USB stick to FAT.
4. Copy LU15X64.fd to USB.
5. Plug the USB stick (not more than 4 gb or about 2-4 gb).
6. Now plug the USB in the affected laptop and remove any power source such as battery and AC adapter.
7. Hold Fn+R (Fn+B or Fn+F or Win+B) key and then plug in adapter. Just after Plugging in the AC adapter. Press the power button.
8. After this you will see the USB light blinking and hear the the fan running.
9. You will then hear beep sound indicating that the BIOS is being reflashed. Leave the computer for about 5-10 Minutes. It will automatically restart. If it doesn't then restart the laptop manually.
10. If everything went well your laptop is back and the BIOS recovered.

This has been tested with the Lenovo IdeaPad U550 and it was successful!
In my U550 on step 7. work Fn+R
