Could someone help me please?

Recently I had a 300GB SATA-150 (Maxtor DiamondMax 10) fail on me, so I bought a 1000GB SATA-300 (Seagate Barracuda 7200.12) drive to replace it with. The problem I am having is the system hangs while detecting the SATA drive (before the XP OS boots). It recognizes the drive model # but just it hangs when it attempts to identify the drive size (i.e 1000GB).

I suspect it’s a motherboard BIOS issue. My SATA controller is built into the motherboard and figure it’s the SATA-150 controller having issue with a SATA-300 drive. However, my motherboard manufacturer has abandoned any future bios updates. So, I went to the SATA controllers’ website and found the current BIOS update. But, I can’t figure out how to incorporate it into my motherboard bios.

• I'm using Gigabyte GA-8INXP motherboard with F5 (latest) bios.
• It has an onboard SATA-150 Silicon Image Sil 3112A SATALink Controller (current bios version is 4.1.36C with the latest SiI 3112 BASE driver version 1.3.68.2).
• I'm trying to use a 1TB SATA-300 (Seagate Barracuda 7200.12) in BASE configuration with jumper setting forced to SATA-150 mode.
• The new SiI3112: SATA BIOS is v4.2.84
If someone (Spinner?) could put together the F5 bios with the latest SiI 3112A BASE bios, I would be very grateful.

thanks.
Can You not just use the Bios Update Utility For Windows , the link is on the site you probided me with

It says : Use this to upgrade to the latest available bios
If not , here the modded bios , but attempt this at your own risk . i qwont be held responsible for anything that might go wrong , although i will try and help with bios recovery if you need it!

Also make sure that the Serial ATA Function Option is set to BASE , not RAID
Hello,

somebody in the German GIGABYTE-Forum gave me the link to this thread, because i have the same problems with a 1TB-HDD and this board.

A new installed Promise SATA300 TX4 Controller was not found by the BIOS of the board. Angry

My last hope was this BIOS here, i flashed it and it works! Yes, my new HDD runs now with the onboard-SATA-controller Big Grin

Thx a lot for Your work!

1234s282, would you still happen to have this modded BIOS file laying around on a drive somewhere? The link is dead and I desperately need this modded BIOS for two reasons: First, for the same reason as the others in this thread, to update the onboard SATA controller BIOS for additional drive support ... And also to serve as the basis for a SLIC 2.1 request. Figure I'd kill two birds with one BIOS... er, stone.

Also, curious if you may have the modded P16 BIOS for the Foxconn Destroyer board also laying around in your archives/backups. You modded that one for a gentleman HERE ... Could definitely use that one as well. If you'd prefer me to post a quoted reply in that thread requesting the file, I can do so (for the sake of completeness to benefit others).

Thanks in advance! Fingers crossed Smile
