Hello I would like to ask for your help.
I have Foxconn 945P7AA -8KS2 mother board with
-Phoenix - AwardBIOS v6.00PG - 515F1P55 (09/13/2007) link
The MB has Intel 945P chipset and support Pentium 4/D, Prescott and Smithfield CPUs.
-Next I have Intel Xeon 5070 (SL969) LGA771 socket

EDIT: I realize I have not C1 (SL969) stepping but B1 (QJYK)...

I moded the CPU and socket to use 771 Xeon in 774 socket. Their FSB also match.

-But when I try to install Xeon instead of "stock" Pentium 4 HT 630, the PC do not start. Screen stays by, nothing on it, not even on. CPU fan goes at full speed, other fan is on, green LED shines. (exactly same as no CPU installed behaviour) (after P4 reinstall, system runs as usual)

The 945P chipset is capable of Pentium 4, Pentium D, Celeron D, Core 2 Extreme, Core 2 Duo CPUs, so the Xeon could be possible to run.
Could anybody help me? What extra info do you need? Will it be possible? Thank you very much.

hi!
I try to inject stepping b1 and c1 microcode for xeon cpu into this bios .
You can test it and remember reply.

hi, thank you very much for your work!
I flashed my bios with your version, installed xeon cpu, but the pc didn't start. (the same behaviour as before bios flash)

I checked your bios with cbrom195.exe and it has updated Micro Code Information, so the last records are SERVER 0F64, so that is the SL969 stepping C1. But my xeon is engineering sample QJYK stepping B1. And there is no CPUID for the QJYK cpu on cpu-world site. It will not be the 0F62, what you added..
Is there any way to get the CPUID other way, than running cpuid on the cpu?
thak you for your work!

EDIT: it seems that B1 stepping has 0F62 CPUID... so what can we do? Add xeon 50** micro codes as separate module to the bios?
thank you

0f62 is b1 stepping and i have added it .
I extract these microcode from tyan s2692 .

You could to check your cpu adapter whether it's install correctly and make sure that you fully cut off 775 socket tab ,that's what you should to do .
Ok, I am doing som mechanical magic with the socket and the adapter Big Grin
but I have a question about the microcodes.
In your image, there are the SERVER records for 0F62 and 0F64 that you added. But what are the "SLOT1 04 0F64" and "SLOT1 0F 0F62" records? They are in the stock BIOS too. They are also microcodes fot C1 and B1 steppig, right?
Thank you very much!

hello,
I had no luck with it.. I tried new adapter, I tried cutting bottom of the adapter, so it can sit in the socket better I tried removing more from the socket tabs..
I also tried reflasting the old bios, but the pc just runs as no cpu installed
I also tried flashing your bios once more, no luck..

But at one try I turned the pc on, it runned and shut down, then turn on ( it does that when new cpu is installed! ) but it did not POST.. it just shut down and stayed turned off...

EDIT: I have an idea.. Can you remove the 'PGA478 0F 0F62' microcode to the SERVER one in the original BIOS file? will it be possible? That is maybe making some problems.. My Pentium 4 is 0F43, so that will not by problem.
(Or.. can you point me to some site/ how to, for editing the BIOS and i will try it myself. I found yust way to add microcodes as separate module..)
Thank you very much!

If turn on the pc sometime has "when new cpu is installed!" message ,mean it is can be support just it has some issue.

Now you must to check adapter whether it fully sticked on cpu ,you need to try it many times and confirm adapter has touch the cpu socket pin .

My experinece ,i install l5420 on p5kpl-am ,after turn on pc it show black screen , i know this board can support this cpu ,so i use tweezer carefully to adjust adapter ,when postion of adapter on cpu is correct then press adapter gently , let it paste on cpu metal surface.

After i strenuous work for three times .
I made it and it boot normal and install os stable .
I still using this l5420 up to now .(now i use msi p35 neo2 and made small oc)

ok, thanks for your experience, I will fight with the CPU more! Big Grin
but next idea: is the QJYK CPU really B1 stepping? Because I saw more Q*** versionsout there.. Can QJYK be not B1 and also not C1? Probably not a good one, but I want to try every ontion..
No.. Still no luck.. the CPU seems to be dead.. The seller said, it was good and taken from running PC..
I tried adjusting the adapter, adjusting the socket, small pressure adjustments for the socket locking system and also headsink positions..

I have just 350W PSU, but I was running just MB with CPU and a weak GPU... But still mother board didn't recognize it.. But the CPU is producing heat, the regulators are also hot.. I really do not know what else to try Big Grin Just if I had lga771 motherboard to test the cpu.. Or sell it as collectors CPU and buy new one..

Is there any other siutable for the board than Xeon 50**? I have 5160 also, but it is 1333FSB...
Thank you for your affort, I really appreciate it! Thank you for your work.
