Seems here is most apropiate area of my post.
I've managed to build a custom pci option rom for my Dell inspiron 9400 to switch ICH7 controler from compatible to sata ahci mode.
PCI registers looks ok but at boot time bios report my hdd as is was detected in legacy mode and now controller is switched to ahci so all programs can't access my hdd.
But if I boot into linux (from usb stick) I can see and get access to my hdd without problems.and is in ahci mode because hwid is changed to 8086:27c5.
(if I boot into linux withouth that pci rom, controller is in compatible mode and hw id 8086:27c4 )
I need somehow to let bios redetect my hdd or something else to have hdd available after bios post.
How can I do that?

That Dell notebook doesn't have posibility to switch from emulated to native sata.
Id be interested in how you built a PCI option rom for this , as its compressed into an exe and while im able to extract the ROM image , im not able to open it in my Phoenix Bios Editor!

On this forum Apokrif present a detailed method to split and unpack, pack and update some Dell bios.
Phoenix Bios Editor is not working for these bioses by Dell, but manually can be done some modification.
And for building my pci option rom I use one template from rebel haven forums.

Page 9 post 86 and page 27 post 264 is software used, page 8 post 80 have info about how to do and recalc checksum etc.
Hmm well i have some reading to do , thank you for the references Big Grin
