I just bought and PC that is quite old, but bough it for quite cheap (300 Danish KR, that is about 50USD)... I found out it has Pentium 4 CPU and has LGA775 socket and just DDR (the first edition, lol), dunno if the mainboard can be upgraded to have Core 2 Duo support... Will be thrilled if it can
The original and newest bios can be downloaded at attachment...
I hope you guys can help me with this
If it cannot have Core 2 Duo, it is okay, it is just for Proxy and File-server...
I have the following motherboard, and I am not sure if I need to proceed with update of CPU microcode for Core2 Duo E4700 by modding the bios below.
Motherboard P5S800-VM
LGA 775 Socket Type
Compatible with PCG 04A and 04B Processors
Northbridge (Chipset): SIS 661FX
Southbridge: SIS 964
FSB: 800 / 533 MHz

Problem: Official Support of the Motherboard only includes Pentium 4
Questions:Is it possible to add Pentium D or Core2 Duo E4700 (“Conroe”) and make it work on this motherboard
Reason for asking: Socket Type LGA 775 and FSB are the same, but the Chipset SIS 661FX probably does not support Core2 Duo CPUs
All suggestions and advices are welcome since I am really new to bio modding, and please stop me right now if you think I am going to brick it for good
PS: I can only find another bios Gigabyte GA-8S661FXM-775 that has the same chipset SIS 661FX but support Pentium D only, its bio link is below
