Hey Guys,
here is my problem.

A friend of mine has a Laptop, the Lenovo U310 to be specific, which gave him a BSOD everytime he tried to boot it up, se he gave it to me.

I tried out a few things but wasnt able to fix it so i just tried to reinstall Windows 8, and wiped the data from the disk (he was ok with formating the disk). So I booted up a bootable pen drive with win 8 and installed it as usual. After It copied everything from the pen drive to the hard drive and tried to restart, its basically dead. Once pressing the power button, you only get a blackscreen with nothing happening at all and no possibility to get into the bios, even bootable pen drives dont boot. After some googling I found out the Bios is stored on Disk - so i overrid it with the formating.

I downloaded the original U310 Bios.wph file and tried to make a recovery pen drive with wincrisis.exe and the tutorial provided on this board, however after inserting the pen drive and starting the notebook with FN+R (custom shortcut for bios flashing by lenovo) it reads from the pen drive for about 3-5 seconds. After that time, it just sort of crashes and reboots with nothing changed.

My guess is im doing something terribly wrong with the pen drive? My steps are:
-start wincrisis as administrator in XP sp3 compatiblity
-press start
-reinsert the usb stick
-press start again
-remove usb stick and exit wincrisis
-replug usb and copy the original bios.wph + phlash16 and minidos to the pen drive
-plug the usb into the notebook
-press FN+R and dont let go
-press power button

Thanks in advance
Sorry for the double post but my problem is pretty urgent as he is using the notebook for work..

Could someone with an U310 or someone with an copy of the bios upload it somewhere so I can try to use that? That would really help me alot. Thanks Smile .
If your laptop Boots and You can Boot from an USB then We can try to reflash Original Bios
using Intel FPT !
let me know

After i press the ON button the screen stays dark, and I cant access the bios via novokey. It just goes back to blackscreen. Altough it seems that fn+r tries to load sonething from usb: the fan turns up to 100% and the screen isnt trned on.
SO It's Bricked !
Have You the toolsto rewrite Firmware into Eeprom Chip directly ?

Ive got a few software tools to write a few things to an USB drive but unfortunatly no tools to do it directly into the chip.

I think the .wph file ive got here is either broken or im doing it wrong, could someone provide me a working copy of the U310 UEFI as a wph? Doesnt matter if its original or modified, but a woprking copy would be awesome!

Id like to try the easy approach frist before buying equiptment ill use once ina lifetime..

thanks for your efforts! Smile

DONT WORRY! IT IS NOT BRICKED!

I had same issue wih my Z580, infact I bought it very cheap as it had this exact problem.

You will need another laptop/pc to fix this.

Put Windows 8 UEFI on a USB (Has to be UEFI!) (GPT, not MBR) - If you use Rufus to create Win 8 USB, select UEFI and it should say "FAT32" or "Large FAT32"

Put the HD from your Lenovo in to your other laptop/pc

Boot to usb and start Windows 8 Install.

Once it is rebooted and installed, put HD back in Lenovo.

It should boot, but we are not finished yet

Then go online and find the latest BIOS for your laptop, here: http://download.lenovo.com/consumer/mobi...cn21ww.exe (U310)

Update BIOS

Done. You should now be able to re-install any OS and it should fix black screen issue

Notice: This method will ONLY work if screen is black BUT backlight is on (You can see slight light from screen)
