Sorry to hear about the board being shot, although I must say I think the first mod might have worked better. You could always resolder it if you find it somewhere.

ill see if i can get a heatgun and order a replacement chip down the road.

looks like the bios chip is not soldered on. when removing the board, chip was found and put back in to the clam shell. bios programmer was able to flash it without issue.
cool.
cool.

nah. just that it was able to be programmed (with the latest stock bios) when popped back in to the clamshell.
the 2nd bios does not work (as i received a no POST). ill see if i can get a cheap testbed up at some point so i can test the 1st bios out which you initially posted.

Any progress?
I have an X4 970 on the way, and am not sure the boards latest official BIOS will recognize it. DFI's site claims to support up to 965, which is the same C3 silicon, with only 100mhz setting it apart from the 970.
Do you know if the microcode changed from the 965 to 970, assuming all AMD microcode is identical across all boards regarding CPU support?
If its not the same, do you think you could mod the same R7SDA08.BIN BIOS to support it?
@pershoot: Where did you acquire your SPI programmer? I've been hunting for one but have had no luck so far.
