Hello, I have i5-2520m sandy bridge CPU in my rPGA988B (G2) socket T420. I want to get a better GPU and that's only possible with a new generation intel CPU which is any Ivy bridge CPU with HD4000 in it.

Is it possible?
Unfortunately, No. Your Chipset is HM65, Ivy requires HM76/HM77.
It's Mobile Intel QM67 Express not HM65. There are examples of QM67 laptops supporting ivy bridge, on dell I think.

can try to replace microcode ....but it can not guarantee success ....it is possible that your motherboard is not soldered need power transistors or capacitors....
I just noticed that there was another thread on this right above mine. Similar details are covered in it:

Except I am looking less for general Ivy Bridge support and mainly for that one specific processor.

Are you sure? I'm 99% positive its HM65
Recent Thinkpads are almost always of the QMx7 variety. This is a screenshot of my T420's mainboard in CPU-Z:
