I got the programmer today but when I hook it up to my chip, it seems to short, the software says that the device is not connected and the programmer heats up. If I don't have the clips attached to the chip, the software detects the programmer. I don't see anywhere that could be shorting. Am I doing something wrong??

This is what I got:
24 25 series EEPROM Flash BIOS USB Programmer CH341A with Software & driver:
http://www.ebay.ca/itm/221576468062?_trk...EBIDX%3AIT

and

SOIC8 SOP8 Flash Chip IC Test Clips Socket Adpter BIOS/24/25/93 Programmer HG:
http://www.ebay.ca/itm/271754385857?_trk...EBIDX%3AIT

I am certain that I have everything hooked up correctly. The 1 pin is connected where the dot is on the chip. I also followed the diagram on the programmer's board.

Update: I tested the clip and cable with a multi-meter and it's fine, there are no shorts within it. I'm thinking it's a faulty USB programmer.

Thanks

Same thing is happening with that. So it's probably that I need to desolder? That's not going to be fun Sad

So I removed the bios chip from the board and it now works. It detects the chip correctly. I took a backup of the bios on the chip and it is 8MBytes but the bios file you sent me is only 4MBytes, is something not right here?
I gace the bios Backup Modded so only a chunk of all Firmware file !
Now I patched the Firmware Dump You sent me in PM !
I replied in PM . . .

It looks like one of the pins wasn't touching while I took my backup and now I don't have a proper backup to restore from Sad I don't have any working version of the bios.

Is there some way to restore the bios without a backup?
I don't know if You are talking of Bios or the Firmware ?

Firmware is composed by many Regions :

Descriptor
GbE
ME
Bios
PdR

Firmware = 8192 KB

Bios = 4096 KB

This is your Bios Region Backup :

You posted before and I get yet !

I am finding your version 76CN31WW to give You the Extracted firmware exact

I can rebuild all your Firmware and replace your original Laptop Data as I have
your Bios Region Backup !
Wait or post a link to your Bios version file

Ok here You go :

Sorry, I meant Firmware. I believe my firmware is messed up.
So I tried loading your rebuilt bin and my laptop power light just blinks and then one of the fans starts going and the cpu seems to heat up. Any other suggestions?

Thanks for all your help so far!
