After a couple more times it popped up saying that windows\inf\biosinfo.inf was corrupt or missing, so when I brought up a dos window I noticed the file was completely gone.

My BIOS version is R02-A3S1 - is anything offered here compatible? I'm on the Aspire M5100-B5302A, and to my frustration there is NOTHING on Acer's site under the 5100 model for BIOS. Please help as I'm stuck, and this forum has been the closest thing I've found after many searches to getting anywhere near a fix.

Sorry to hear of your problem , this error message is a WINDOWS related problem and can be caused by having norton antivirus installed.

Please see here for a solution to this error message , hope it helps you

Thanks. Unfortunately the page you directed me to is only for Windows XP, so using an XP biosinfo.inf may not work for me - I just installed Windows 7 when this problem happened, and checking on another machine with Win7 installed to find a replacement biosinfo.inf, it doesn't have one. So once again I'm stuck... should I just make a blank biosinfo.inf? Does it need the file to have anything specific right off the bat, or will it populate the file with the right info once one exists? And if my other install of Win7 has no biosinfo.inf, why am I even getting this error?

Thanks for your reply.
Im not sure , i just checked my own windows 7 install and i havent got one either!

Try running the repair install off the Installation DVD
