Hey all
so i have a  01/07/10 bootblock hp z600 with the 3.6 bios in it
i got 2 new x5687 cpus for it and i get the message of to much power draw .
the mobo is rated for other 130w TDP cpus  so Im unsure if thats just unsupported microcode
i have the z600 3.6 bios that from everything Ive read hasn't got the x5687 as a listed cpu and the z800 bios that does .

my issue is simply i have no way to check it all out
i can upload the bios's to a preferred site if that helps . they are available on the hp website as long as you select z600 and win7 ... not 8 .. i only say this because sometimes the geniune source is nice and clean

if anyone could help that would be rad . I'm aware this might not be even a bios issue and something else might be causing the problems
thanks !!

i think the issue you are having is related to the heatsinks  probably .The message you posted is mostly about the heatsinks.People use to short 1-5 pin in normal heat sinks to trick the bios..Otherwise my thougt has to do with the psu..The small Z800 uses 850compared to the 650 of the z600.But still i beleive is the heat sinks that do the thing..Update if you have solved your issue i would like to know if you came up with any solution

Too bad he never replied... It would have saved some wasted money for me on  2x 5687 cpus... You are right that it could be solved by jumping pins 1-5 on the fans but this is not the case... This only works for Z800, I can confirm that these cpus DO NOT WORK with this platform. Getting the same message with either stock fans or the upgraded ones.... So the question is, can this platform get bios-hacked to allow the cpus to work properly? In my point of view this is only a hardware lock from hp...

Edit: By the way I have the latest 3.61 bios not the 3.60 one.
