Hello to all and nice to meet you.

I have in my hands a Toshiba C660-1TN laptop , and i have changed some stuff.
Like SSD & RAM and little upgrades so far.

I have ,installed the latest BIOS Update from Toshiba 1.50 but i didn't see any specifications.
I have HM65 Chipset, and i would like to find out which is the best suitable solution in CPU Upgrade, because so far i have searched all the google, and some people say that the 2nd Generation CPU that i already have, can be switched with a 3rd Generation.

Does anyone know anything about this ?

Looking forward for your suggestions.
Chipset HM65 don't support Ivy Bridge core. So you can't use a 3rd Generation.

I have run into topics that 3rd generation CPU was working just fine, because it was the same socket . rPGA988
Socket G2 is used for mobile CPUs with Sandy Bridge and Ivy Bridge cores. But you need Panther Point chipset (e.g. HM75) for Ivy Bridge support.

Yes that's what i thought.
So you think the other guy that did that, got lucky ? Because i saw it was for sure HM65 and he used a 3rd Generation i5.

Never mind.

So from here as far as i get :

I can put max the i7 2860QM .Correct ?

But if you scroll a little bit more down you will see that compeatible are also
  • i7-3555LE, L3 4 MB, Turbo 3.2 GHz
  • i7-3610QE, L3 6 MB, Turbo 3.3 GHz
  • i7-3612QE, L3 6 MB, Turbo 3.1 GHz
  • i7-3615QE, L3 6 MB, Turbo 3.3 GHz
  • i7-3517UE
What are this ? I mean ,as i can see it's from the next generation. But it's the first time that i see the letters LE/QE/UE.
I only knew about the QM/UM and so on....
This laptop uses HM65 chipset that officially support only three CPU's for Socket G2 on Ivy Bridge core:
  1. Core i3-3120ME
  2. Core i5-3610ME
  3. Core i7-3610QE
But they need special motherboard for embedded systems. You can't buy them.
i7-2860QM has TDP=45W. it will be constantly overheating.
Best choice for your laptop is Core i7-2640M or Core i7-2620M with TDP=35 W.
P.S. Theoretical maximum is i7-2960XM with TDP=55 W
P.S.S. Your BIOS (1.50) has microcode for CPUID=206A7: version - 23, date - 08/28/2011.

Thank you very much.

Yes ,how can we know about the support of the BIOS,you think it will be fine ?
and also what about the Max memory ?

I can clearly see that the Max memory on the site of the intel is 16GB.So i can go up to 16GB?
i7-2640M or i7-2620M will be fine. For 16GB memory you need two SODIMM DDR3-1333(or faster) modules with 8Gb.

Yes i know, but the HM65 says that the limit is at 8GB MAX.
Toshiba C660-1TN also , i think on the guide i saw about the 8GB Max.
Maybe because then there wasn't many suggestions ?

I am willing to go to a good DIMM DDR3 with 16GB RAM .

And go to a simple i7 QM (i know about the heat and the consumption) like i7 2630QM which i find really cheap. Not even 50€.
