Hi, I've got a few boards of GA-M68SM-S2L... Currently they have the Athlon 64 X2 3800+ equipped. But I've got a FX-4300 and a amd phenom ii x4 955 laying around.
Would it be possible to install these am3 and am3+ cpus' in the old am2 systems?
Most CPUs for Socket AM3 are supported by BIOS version F9G.
But you can't use AM3+ CPU.
What's version of Phenom II X4 955 you have?
HDX955FBK4DGI, HDX955WFK4DGM, HDZ955FBK4DGI or HDZ955FBK4DGM?

I'll take a look, but the Phenom will fit the socket, and with a bios update I can safely start the PC? No harm to the system I mean, and if its not able to boot I know that that cpu will not work. Yeah, I had a hunch that the am3+ was a bit radical  Angel
No harm to the system Smile

I've got the HDZ955FBK4DGI. I upgraded with the fx-4300, not sure if it was a big upgrade or not Tongue
But anyways I plan on putting the phenom in the am2 motherboard if possible

And this motherboard can boot up with it? I don't believe.
Post screenshots of first (CPU) & third (Mainboard) tabs of CPU-Z with FX-4300.

HDZ955FBK4DGI is has unlocked clock multiplier. But I'm not sure that you can change it in this BIOS. And it has very high TDP. Overheating can be problem.
HDX955WFK4DGM is recommended.
No, the fx and phenom has been used on M5A97_R20. Really sorry, bad information from me.
Dont think I will overclock the phenom in the am2 mb if it boots, I've not had time to try that yet. But yeah, I managed to overclock the fx with ease, and the temps are down, even when I got it in a small case with rx 480 and minimal ventilation :S
