What's marking on chips?

Hi DBringer Big Grin

There are 8(eight) Number black chips (The same number as on the face side of the Ram Chip).

The markings state thus on each chip (very small inscription):

ELPIDAjpn
E1104ACSE
-6E-E
084209FXJ

Please can you give me a hint as to whether you think it will be possible to upgrade the BIOS to read the 4Gig of Ram?

Just one quick aside question I have backed up my current BIOS with a utility called "Universal BIOS Backup toolkit" but when I come to save the file after reading it it says Save as type: SLIC(*.Bin). It saves it as a rom file, what does SLIC mean?

Best Regards Big Grin

I'm trying to find the error in BIOS.
I haven't datasheet for this chipset. Sad
So I need many experimental information.
Please try to install 1Gb in first slot and 2Gb in second one.
Make a photo of Standard CMOS Features page in BIOS.
Then swap DIMMs.
Make another a photo that page in BIOS.
Good Evening DBringer,

So you think there is an error in the BIOS, rather than MSI invoking a capped limit of 1gig per ram slot by design on their motherboard?

I am assuming when you refer to slot 1 you are referring to the slot in the closest proximity to the CPU/Fan etc for this test, this is just to illustrate we are both singing off the same hymn sheet figuratively speaking? Again we are not required to boot into windows just enter the BIOS.

Can I assist by looking on the http://www.... to try and find a data sheet for the chipset but you would need to provide specifics in order to investigate further we might get lucky & cut to the chase?

Much Obliged,

It's wrong. You have 1.2B5. It's Medion OEM BIOS.
Try to update BIOS to version 1.2BK - http://www.medion.com/gb/service/_lightb...?stxt=bios
Also you can flash beta BIOS v1.43 for MSI-7222 rev. 1.x - http://soggi.eu/files/motherboards/bios/...3_beta.zip
Hi DBringer Big Grin ,

Do you know if these upgrades to the BIOS will permit 2 x 2Gb (4gb) of Ram. I have looked at the write up in respect of the Beta Version but it makes no mention of upgrading the ram from 2Gb to 4Gb. My main objective is to get 3712Mb (4Gig) of Ram through a BIOS modification, the PM8PM-V MB the next gen MB says unofficially that it could be done on the "V" MB. also in respect of the 1.2BK I do not have the application support CD.

If there is little difference in the architecture of these MB's (Ram Slots), as is often the case, I was hoping that the BIOS would be capable of being amended to permit 4gb of Ram. I became hopeful when CPU-Z read it at 4Gb of ram when both 2 x 2Gb sticks were loaded.

Also there is little point in flashing the BIOS to a newer version if the main objective (4Gb of ram) is not achieved?

Do you think I am asking too much & my request is un-achievable, please do not feel bad if it is not possible, hence the reason for my title of my initial post "General Advice Please" sometimes we have to accept things cannot be done in the way we would like them to be?

Best Regards,

Too many questions. Just try to flash.
Maybe newer BIOS supports 4Gb.
You can use Rufus to make DOS USB-flash.
Hi DBringer Big Grin

Too many Questions, Naaahhh! Only one question really,

Can the existing BIOS be amended in respect of Re-programming the BIOS to permit 4Gb of Ram on a MSI-7222 MB (CPU-Z reads it)

& the answer is....?

Before I attempt to Flash the BIOS I think I will visit the MSI website forums to see anyone else has experience of this particular MB & whether the Beta Flash will read 4Gb of Ram.

I will need to backup my existing BIOS get the appropriate manufacturers flashing program add the beta flash & my backup just in case the beta flash is unsuccessful for any reason.

What is "Rufus" is that a preparation program for making a boot-able USB stick? Will I need to format the USB stick to FAT16 seeing as it is DOS

Only real experiment can help to answer your question.
Use Universal BIOS Backup ToolKit 2.0 to backup.
Rufus - https://rufus.akeo.ie
