Bios Mods -The Best BIOS Update and Modification Source

I have only seen discussions of removing whitelists from such BIOS' as have them, like ThinkPads. I'm just curious as to why I haven't seen talk of editing the whitelists to replace old, useless (eg 802.11 bg) WiFi cards from the list and replace them with newer cards (eg Intel 7260)? I get that it's easier to just delete it and allow everything, but I also see that doing this often results in the 5 beeps syndrome. Would editing in new items to the whitelist resolve this?

I'm sorry if this has been asked and answered before. I didn't see it on a site search.
If this is possible, where could I find instructions on getting started on this process and what would I look for?
I'd be willing to learn how and test this out on my own gear if there were someone willing to check my work the first time and then I'd bee willing to possibly help others get their BIOS' modded in such a manner.

The five beeps is the firmware complaining that it's been modified: swapping PCI IDs in the ROM will cause the same behavior to occur, unfortunately.

I don't claim to be an expert at this but it seems like this indicates an incorrectly modified BIOS. Not a modified BIOS. I'm thinking some sort of checksum that needs updated. Otherwise there's no way the system could tell one BIOS from another, modified or not.

I agree with the direction you are going with this and ive got a few ideas to throw in the pot that might be a good direction to start with. First one being there is a program i came across called Pheonix Tools i believe that could take an extracted bios and allow you tk view the structure of it. I didnt poke around too much but either this or a hex editior seem like a good place to starf. So what is this "whitelist" we are wanting to edit. Obviously someone knows what it is and how to remove it so if we could get a gap filler here thatd be sweet.
