Gday,

Seeking similar information. I can pick up a used Shuttle sx58h7 pretty cheap and wanted to throw a x5650/70 in it.

The motherboard is different than the OP's.

This is the one in question. And just wondering if I would run into the same compatiblity issues? It would be a safe assumption, but gerddetlev mentioned the sx58h7 working with the x56xx cpus? Is that confirmed or just theorising?

I cannot find out if the h7 MB has 1 or 2 QPI links, which was mentioned to possibly be the issue here. Although this stuff is slightly above my knowledge base so looking for help.
OsP x SSJ4 x
Post a screenshot of third (Mainboard) tab of CPU-Z.

Unfortunately I can't. The pc in question is on ebay and was going to pick it up as a possible LAN computer under the pretence that it could run an x5650/70. So I actually cant check.
So I can't answer your questions.
Well I found this.

So it seems there is a shuttle x58 with a xeon compatible motherboard. THe SX58H7_X1 and XE, and you could buy it with a e5506 or w3565 xeon. Which has *drum roll... the e5506 has 2 QPI links.

These two variants seem to have the same motherboard. But still different than the SX58H7 and SX58J3.

Also another discovery is that if you search for Bios updates. Despite the h7_X1 and XE having a different mother board there is only 3 bios options, the H7 Pro, J3 and H7. So if the h7 couldnt run the x56xx cpus but the X1 or XE could, then it would be a hardware issue and no bio. But that also gets me thinking that if they share a bios, surely they cannot be that different.

Whether or not that means a x5650/70 will run in them? I dunno. I put in a low ball offer for the regular H7 unit on ebay. It's so cheap I'm willing to take a hit on it.
L5520 xeon is working
I have just bought a Xeon X5680 to put in my Shuttle XPC SX58H7 which has the latest BIOS, version P:
http://global.shuttle.com/main/productsD...uctId=1219

I currently have an i7-950 in there which works just fine, but when I put the Xeon in it switches on but no real POST, just spinning fans

Shuttle did offer a Xeon version of this system:
http://www.shuttle.eu/products/discontin...sx58h7-xe/

Quote:This version of the SX58H7 series supports Intel Xeon processors in the LGA1366 package (models W3565 and E5506)
There does not appear to be a separate BIOS download for this version so I can only assume it uses the same.

The E5506 has 2x QPI so in theory my X5680 should work? Could it be because mine is hexacore?

Is there anyone who could kindly modify the manufacturer's BIOS to see if support is possible please?

See attached CPU-Z info
SX58H7 X1 & SX58H7 XE with Xeon support use other mainboard - FX58 Pro.

Mine is an FX58(S5165) v1.1
I think this motherboard hasn't support for hexacore CPU.
It's not BIOS problem but hardware incompatibility.
