mostly want to add micro code for xeon chips. i keep reading that you cant mod intell bios, cant seem to find any info that states otherwise.
Have you this motherboard and Xeon now?

yeah, i have an e5472, that i had laying around and this mother board, it has some dual core cpu in it at the moment. i also have a ch341a eeprom programmer, however it just disconnects when i put the clip on the chip. was thinking of de-soldering it, but i cant make out the numbers on the chip, so if i broke it i wouldn't know what to replace it with. not even sure that that would work, it's just how i modded the bios on my laptop.
wouldn't really care if it broke, it was salvaged mb, but i can still work with it if i brought a q6600 or something like that. just trying to put a pc together for a mate that has no money, with parts i have laying around.
This motherboard doesn't support FSB=1600 Mhz natively. Did you tried to boot your E5472 with this motherboard?
Have you Xeon with FSB=1333 Mhz?

Nah, haven't tried yet, thought it would need the micro code for it to work. It works in another board i haveĀ https://www.asus.com/us/Motherboards/P5G41TM_LX/ it has a q6600 in it. However i cant change the multiplier above 7 and the q6600 is unlocked, the chip only ran at like 2.4 or something instead of 3. Do you think i could make that other board run at 1600 and just change the cpus out seems more viable to mod the bios on that board

This in many cases is not required to somehow boot.
