hi guys
i plan on upgrading my laptop cpu and i need to add the microcode for the ivy bridge processors to my bios
does anyone know how to do that and can tell me what i need to do?
my laptop is currently running an i5 2450m and i would like to get an i7 3***qm instead.
the chipset is hm65 which also supports ivy bridge.
Your laptop is based on HM65 without support for Ivy Bridge core.
So you can't use i7 3***qm.
ok that i think i will go for an i7 quad core but i will need to add the microcode as well
can you tell me how to do that ?
Adding microcode doesn't add support for new CPUs.
what do i need to do to install a new cpu?
i mean if i upgrade from i5 to i7 while staying in sandy bridge?
Without a photo of its motherboard (near a socket) I can recommend i5 & i7 (Sandy Bridge) with two cores only.

does the cooler need to be off for the foto?
i also asked the sony support and they said that the motherboard was sold with an 2670qm, which means that it should be able to handle 45w afaik
At first make a photo with the cooler.

here it is
i hope you can see anything on there
Yes, you have full featured motherboard.
But I think that quad cores CPU will overheat this laptop.
To check it you need to stress current GPU and CPU simultaneously: run Furmark & LinX (with idle process priority).
Make screenshot of HWMonitor when GPU & CPU temperatures will stop rising.
