Hi there,

I've been searching for a way to unlock the advanced settings in my bios for quite a while and failed so far. I have an

Acer Aspire E5-511 with InsydeH20 BIOS
Bios version: v1.03
Revision: 5.0

You can find my BIOS here:
http://global-download.acer.com/GDFiles/...&SC=EMEA_8

But it does not include any .fd, .rom or .bin file, if needed, and right now I don't know how to get them.

I hope someone can tell me, how to unlock the advanced settings. Thanks!

Btw. I just have Linux, so it would be nice if there were a non-windows-specific way.

First of all thank you very much, for your fast response!

After a long way i finally have the results.rar. You can find it here:
https://www.sendspace.com/file/h10wli

Now, it might be a dumb question here, but how do I make use of the Slic Header and the "Menu tab Unlock Mod" you posted? Right now I do not know what to do with them.

Thanks again!
I'm new, so I'm not sure this should be here, but my computer died a couple days ago and I've read around that flashing the bios my help. It "turns on", the fan runs and the disk drive spins, but nothing else. I've found that if I hold fn+esc when I power it on the fan goes faster and I've head this is an indication this is the crisis boot block, but I'm not sure because I can't find what I should name my bios file ANYWHERE. I'm planning on sending my laptop to Acer to get it fixed (if it isn't a MB problem) but I'd rather get it fixed without sending it off if at all possible. you can find the bios filehere I'm hoping you guys here can help as I've been extremely angry since I had just gone through a three day endevor of getting Ubuntu working properly with the stupid UEFI of Windows 8. Any help would be appreciated.

Whats up buddy? Did you successfully update the BIOS?

I am also having E5-511 system under warranty and planning to flash into new bios. Do you think acer support will fix it if I flash and damage the system? Any idea?
I couldn't get any info on what I should name the bios file and ended up sending it in where they replaced the motherboard.
Hi guys,

I bought a laptop (Acer E5-511) primarily for installing both Linux and windows. I have installed windows 8.1, however, while trying to install Linux, it doesn't detect any filesystem partitions that windows uses. So I gave up and installed a vmware workstation inside it, but I am not able to install VMs since intel VT-x is disabled. Prior to purchasing laptop, I had made sure that processor support intel VT-x. But there are no options in bios to enable intel VT-x and I am at loss now Sad

After a lot of research, its known than Acer disables the "Advance settings" in BIOS to hide that option. I have read a lot of method to hack into BIOS to enable the hidden settings in BIOS, but all of them related to other Acer systems even though its InsydeH2O, so I am not confident of doing it.

My current bios version is v1.02 (InsydeH2O rev 5.0). And I have few update available in acer website and main one is verson 1.07 (http://global-download.acer.com/GDFiles/...R&SC=AAP_2) and I assume it is also having the same problem.

I am thinking about flashing with v1.07. Would someone provide some steps to enable to settings by patching that BIOS. Or guiding me to find a patched bios of the same would be a great help. Any help would be appreciated,

Thanks

buddy, did you got how to enable the hidden menu?

I am also looking for it Sad
Hi,

sadly I had no time to unlock the hidden menu. Or at least give it a try.

But in the next days I will start working on it again. But instead working on this BIOS version, I will update the BIOS to v1.07 and keep trying to unlock this one, because the .exe-file contains a BIOS-image (.fd-file). Therefore I don't need another way retrieving it.
You can find that version on the acer website or in this link:
http://global-download.acer.com/GDFiles/...&SC=EMEA_8

When I finally managed to modify the BIOS, I will tell you how I did it, or upload the modified version, if you want.

If you want to try it on your own, check out this blog:
http://donovan6000.blogspot.de/2013/06/i...-tabs.html
and then have a look at BDMasters Reply above. Then you should be able to modify it. (At least it's what I am going to try.)

Greetings
Thank you for your reply buddy.

I read the article, but feels like its too complex for me to try it on my own.

Best of luck for your try and hope you will be able to unlock it Smile

Thanks
