What happens: I read that rPGA 989 is PGA988A and PGA988B compatible, I bought a used i7 2630QM and it doesn't start, it only blinks and spins the fan for a second then shuts off.

Socket G1 (PGA988A) and Socket G2 (PGA988B) aren't compatible.

So the wiki about socket G1 & G2 is not right?
Just look at the bottom of both your CPUs and find the difference in pins.
