I just got duped into buying a used Dell laptop. This laptop have problem of overheating.

After doing some research, the only way to resolve this issue to to undervolt the CPU. However, to do that I need to downgrade the BIOS to lower version as the new version has locked the ability to undervolt.

Now the problem is I cannot downgrade the BIOS because it is system locked. A password is required to make changes to the BIOS including updating/downgrading BIOS. I have contacted dell and they gave me a password that doesn't work. So now I am in need of help on how to downgrade the BIOS or reset the BIOS password. Appreciate anyone who can point me to the right direction.

Thank you.

Press Ctrl+Enter after typing manufacturer's password.
Can you make current BIOS dump?
Tried CTRL+ENTER many times but it doesn't work.

Ok, let me try to do BIOS dump.

Edit: do I need to buy some devices to do the BIOS dump?

You can use Universal BIOS Backup ToolKit 2.0 with custom size (8M or 16M) for first analyze.
I have used Universal BIOS Backup Toolkit 2.0 to extract the BIOS.

Attached are 2 files with custom size 8mb and 16mb. It did detected 16mb.

The toolkit also detect the BIOS as AMIBIOS (not sure how accurate it is).

I assume I have to start poking into the ROM files to remove the password?

Appreciate the help.
I have good news - read PM.
