My mobo, intel 915GM, is said to recognize a total of 2gb memory. But, anyway, I put a 2gb and a 1gb ram into the memory slots and all the applications installed in my laptop say that there's 3gb memory in total.

Strange is my Windows 7 says 3gb ram installed, but only 1.99gb usable. Now that my laptop doesn't freeze with 3gb memory installed in it, I guess there are some restrictions on maximum memory in its bios. How do you think? Could it be possible that a mobo doesn't actually recognize a certain amount of memory but still indicates the total amount of memory in OS as if it had been successfully installed? If so, is there a way to modify the BIOS to lift the limit?

The BIOS file has .IMC extension and I wonder if you have any idea about how to open this. I want to know whether it has some hidden menus for changing the memory settings.

I would appreciate any advice on this. Thanks.

some intel bioses are AMI in disguise if this is the case we MIGHT be able to do something but if its one of intels unique bioses tehres nothing we can do Sad

.IMC is opened with Intel Integrator Toolkit if i remember correctly
