Hi
I've just got a Dell T7400 with an old E5410 xeon. I aim to upgrade the cpu to a pair of E5450s. I'll try to play with the fsb first this weekend and see where I get, I'll keep you posted.

Simon

Hi,

Have you some news about your experience based on this motherboard and overclocking capability or unlocknig bios?

Thanks.
Hi, the only thing I've been able to do is up the FSB using a windows FSB utility. I've changed the CPU over to an E5450 and got it running about 10% quicker playing with the FSB, that's all though. Would like to change the multiplier but cannot find a way.
Hi,

I am using a dual X5472 xeon CPU's.

the FSB is already very high (1600Mhz) E5450 are at (1333Mhz) so cannot play with FSB above 1600Mhz its touch ^^
Hi,
I like my old Beasts. I have two T7400's so decided to upgrade them. Download the latest Bios. One is fairly recent AO11 April 2012.

Both are Dual Quad core 2.8 1600mhz.16Gb Pc2 6400 FDIMM Not bad. Just did this Mod. Bought three used pairs. $45.00 Shipped matched.

E5430 2.68 MHZ 12mb Quad core 1333. It boots stock with Pc2 6400. At 1600 mhz not with pc5300 Fdimm. It is called BSEL Mod link below.Though writer says
just one pin in the link. Did not work in my first T7400. Both pins covered Booted right up. Same CPU temperature at 1600 mhz as at 1333mhz.

Using SetFsb pushed to 402. 3.267 GHZ. Will play later and see if I can get to 3.4 stable. 1600MHZ 3.4 used $200. bananas versus $7.50 used !

Going to run tests to see if they out perform the 2.8 1600 mhz. I use permatex Ultra Copper RTV sealant as my heat sink compound. Possible temps
at idle might lower a bit if I used some good stuff but I am cheap. 34 Centigrade is ok.

Will post later or tomorrow. Just received $20.per pair Two matched pair X3363 12M cache 2.83. Maybe can hit 3.5? 3.6 stable? Will find out. LOL Have a few other pairs of Xeon Quads 2.66, and duals. Going to take out the pair in my Dell 490 at 3.73 1066 Dual core (BSL 1333. ) BSL mod them to 1600mhz and try them out in one of the T7400. Maybe 5GHZ?

Maybe one day some one can Mod perhaps an Intell board bios to work in the T7400 LOL ! Poor mans MacPro? Skull trail. Most Server FDIMMS 6400 with CL5 all work so far in my T7400's They turn up on ebay at less than 5.00 per gig. One server dealer on the Internet Sells Bare-bone T7400 199.00+ $25.00 shipping. You do not need the perc 5 or perc 6. You can do Raid 0 or 1 .

Both T7400 are triple boot OS. Vista Business/Server 2008 64/Windows 32.

Okay could not wait. Just installed the new used server Xeon Chips X3363 2.83. BSEL Mod to 1600mhz. Then set-fsb. Rock stable 3.5 Probably can go to 3.6. This T7400 poops out past 421. its at 412. Will download run Prime.

Somebody might figure out a Bios Mod for the T7400 !
No problem's at all with Xeon E5430. BSEL Mod pins 6 and 7 1333 to 1600mhz. All 6 cpus worked one at a time in either 771 CPU socket of my Dell T7400.

No problem Dell T7400 boots with a pair at 3191.8 mhz 1600 fsb according to cpu info. Now that does not compare to the X3363. Not one
of them X3363 would boot the machine from the first 771 slot . The top Slot with the BSEL mod. Bottom yes. Even without the BSEL mod also.
Interestingly they will boot the machine as a pair stock at 2830.0 mhz?

Has to be the BIOS LOL !

Now with set FSB Stable at 3302.9 Not bad for 2x $7.50 cents total $15.00 Xeon Quad Cores shipped. Temperature at idle
is an average of 36C on all 8 cores using permatex all copper gasket sealant. Now to put a pair into my other T7400 !

Next will see what happens with X5355 Xeons. These are new matched sets from Star Micro. $100. a pair. I know they will work on my two Dell 490.
The Dell 490 has to have the last revision board. Not the earlier Dell 490 Boards. And the last Bios Dell introduced.

Dell 690s. Same case even power supply as T7400 dirt cheap on Ebay. Bus speed is only 1333 on those boards.

490s are dirt cheap on Ebay if you are patient. Bought one recently for $65.00 shipped with a pair of dual Xeons. Interestingly last revision board in it. No operating system. It was cheaper to buy the whole thing than purchase the individual heat sinks to upgrade my two Dell 490's. They are configured with just one processor.

Now that will be interesting if the 1066 mhz 3.73 duals will work in the T7400. Then BSEL to 1600 mhz. Then a gentle push with setfsb to 5ghz?
On air no less.

How do I know they work? Found a Dell Dealer on the Internet selling 490's with matched pairs. Confirmed it also. Will shoot myself in the foot if the X3363 work in the 490's. They were $20. per pair. LOL

Also I knew the E5430 would work in the T7400 non BSEL. Dealers are selling them on Ebay with this Quad core installed ?

It is definitely the Bios that limits the T7400.
Okay waiting on a delivery of a pair of 677mhz LGA 771 Xeon Dual core 5050. $11.72 shipped for the pair. yup BSEL mod to 1600mhz? In the T7400. Also on my 490's ! the elusive 5GHZ on mother boards without OC Options. Finally a Dealer took my offer. E5450 Quad 1333mhz 3.0gh $50. Shipped
matched pair. Ought to work hopefully. BSEL to 1600mhz 3.47 or better. then a push with SetFsb to 3.6?

Just might get a used Skull trail board and swap out one board on one of my T7400 LOL. Hope this information helps some one upgrading their Boat Anchors.

Well I like my Boat Anchors. Also bored. Awaiting delivery of a supposed new Intel 5400 Skull trail. Will put that into a Dell Precision 690 case. With water coolers and 8gigs Pc6400 FBDIMM.
$220.Pc 6400 is expensive still. Cheapest new $70.00 4gigs. Coolers will be handy when I go to work on the 667 Xeon 5050 3.0 mhz. I can taste 5GHZ on the Dell T7400 already ! With no Bios options !

Good news. BSEL on Intel Xeon E5450 works with A09 Bios. 3490.GHZ Stable.35c average across all cores. Will try with latest A-11 Bios. Then install SetFsb on this machine. Looks good 392.00mhz divider. Maybe can sqeez up to 3.7 ghz? . at 413 with SetFSB ! How is that for an old Boat Anchor !

On Air. Some one crack this Bios Please !

Found a pair of E5445 mixed in with the Xeon X3363 I had. Will try those on my other T7400. E5440 works well also BSEL and a push with SetFSB.
