This is modified BIOS image for Dell XPS L501X. It is based on BIOS A06. Use at your own risk!

Some of the unlocked hidden Sub-Menu:-
  • CPU Control Sub-Menu
  • PCH Control Sub-Menu

Quote:NOTES: I have unlocked other menu as well. Please be careful with it. If your computer doesn't boot after changing something in the sub-menu, you will need to disconnect the CMOS/RTC battery to reset CMOS back to default. To do so, you will need to open your notebook casing.
Please make sure your notebook can recover corrupted BIOS with CRISIS disk before flashing BIOS with this modified BIOS image. I will not responsible for any problem. Good luck. Smile

Excellent work kizwan!

Are you able to provide a guide on how this was achieved? I am also looking to extract the NVIDIA BIOS from the Dell BIOS if you could help with this please, or point me in the right direction?

I am looking to edit the NVIDIA BIOS with a program such as NBITOR then flash it back so that my settings are permanent. Should also be a nice learning curve Big Grin

Could you share this information so that others can benefit from it also?

I know how to change the voltages/clock speeds for the vbios, but I want to be able to change the vbios to a newer version/different card. Right now I am trying a 420m GT to a 525m GT (Both are GF108 cores so it should work), but I can't reintegrate the new vbios file. Its saying something like "module is 500 bytes too big".

Also, how do i know if this bios is uefi?

The BIOS is not UEFI but it is apparently capable of it if someone can implement it.

I am also looking at doing something similar to you but I want to flash mine with GT 550M as I have been running at those speeds for months with no issues. Actually clock a fair bit higher but I am happy with the GT 550M speeds, possibly looking to undervolt the card too as I have an i5 580M on the way and am looking to force it to stay in Turbo Mode @3333 Big Grin
I would love an unlocked A08 Bios aswell, maybe somebody is still active and could help out on this topic. Thanks a lot!
Hello Tuxuser360,

I will take a look at the A08 BIOS.

While I can perform standard setting unlocks and DMI string modifications, I cannot yet perform other mods that involve overclocking, Option ROMs, memory remapping, whitelists, or UEFI.

Once I can afford a test motherboard, I am going to explore all of these mods for Phoenix BIOSes. If I figure out how to perform one of the mods requested in this thread, I will release a mod of this BIOS and notify you. I will also release tutorials on how to perform these mods yourself if you wish to mod your own BIOS.

As per TSOPrano's tutorial request, I have been working on a beginner-friendly tutorial for general Phoenix BIOS modding.

EDIT_2: Just out of curiousity, had a look at the later model, the L502X, which is UEFI. And it includes modules for IbexPeak.. which is what L501X is based on... but YOU GUYS are the experts when it comes to that, and I am sure you already tried various things. Also, I dont have a way to recover if something goes bad :/

Access to CPU / PCH Options with A08 would already help alot Smile
Am experimenting with OSX currently.. and it would really help.
I highly doubt that you can modify L501X's Bios to have a nice way of disabling optimus.. but if you come across such Wink

Thx again
Did anyone ever get anywhere with a08 or even do any further work on a06 ? I know this is a many years old bump, sorry.
