Hey,

I've been searching around for a way to control my fan speed on my DV6-3160, and no luck so far, HP coolsense wasn't available on my model and fan speed runs ridiculously low and sometimes is off even when the PC is idling at 70-80c, Under load the temps spike to about 95c. I was wondering if it's possible to get a modded bios to have the fan speed run at 100% no matter what state it is in (battery, plugged in) I would really appreciate it if anyone could help me out.

I can try to unlock Advanced and Power menus to you, if the option to force the fan is present then you're done. If not present.. hmmm i think no way at the moment to force it to max. You better open portable and connect it to a fixed 5/12v source.

I wait yor answer.
Unlocking the advanced menus would help me out greatly. Even if it doesn't have detailed fan options I'm sure it will have some options that would be very convenient. I really appreciate your help!

Hi Camiloml,

As my model is very similar uses same version bios but need the Intel processor version unlocked. I have also setup a topic. Would be great if you can also assist me thank you.

I know i am a little late getting here for the party, but if you can make a modified BIOS for the dv6-3160us that would allow the end user to control the fan speed, that would be amazing. I have been trying a number of programs, but it seems as though HP has locked people out of it.

And yes, I am aware of the harm that could result of operator error or any other problems and am willing to accept that risk.

The BIOS for the DV6-3160us is very minimal with what the end user can do, and I particularly am not a fan of it(as I am sure many others aren't). I think you would be doing everyone a favor with this, and it would be greatly appreciated. If you can make it, I would like to donate a small amount. It probably won't be able to be much as I am short on money, but I would like to donate at least a small something if I can come up with the money.

Will put my hands at work on this Wink
I downloaded the file and have bad news for you, it's sigcheck and RSA signed, that means it can suffer from semi-brick side effect when entering bios setup and exit saving changes.

So you should wait by now, is not possible.
Well, that sucks, but I guess there isn't really anything that can be done about it. Thank you for doing what you could. I supposed you could go ahead and lock this thread then if you wanted, since we have obviously hit a conclusion. Again, thank you for your help.
