Hi.
This is a general warning to all mod requesters, specially HP users.
Last laptops bios are mostly RSA signed, which means that once modded it can produce a semibrick when you enter bios setup.
The semibrick can be repaired by removing cmos battery (dismantling laptop), and then flashing back the original bios on first boot.
So you decide if want to take the risk to test such a bios. I personally think that the risk is not worth. But hey, some of them doesn't brick. So it's your choice.
Do you want me to look if it's possible to mod the bios? If you're not planning to test it then i will not waste my time. And of course if you brick/semibrick your laptop is at you own risk, don't cry after. Many times is needed to remove hptools partition to be able to flash the mods, otherwise you encounter "Bios update failed" messages.
How to detect beforehand if the bios is RSA signed and avoid making me loose my time?
Well, the eaiest way is using winrar and the latest Andy's phoenix tool (v1.90 beta 4 or later).
Procedure is simple, just download stock flasher from manufacturer's site, unpack it using winrar and try to open it with andy's tool. If the first message you see in the log box is "Decrypted" then the bios is RSA signed. If you don't see that "Decrypted" legend as first output from the tool the bios is not RSA signed.
If you don't find andy's tool you can try to guess by bios filename if it is RSA signed, once unpacked stock flasher if the BIG .FD or .BIN file is named something like 01xxxx.bin 03xxxx.bin (or .FD) then mostly is RSA signed, if the names doesn't start by 01 or 03 then it's probably not RSA signed.
Said this, please check this matter before posting requests, i will not remember in threads anymore, it bores me repeating everytime the same thing. So consider everyone warned regarding this issue.
I will stick this thread and mark as important, and as important MUST be read by all mod requesters before making a request.
Nice day to all.
Camilo.
