Yes this is an old thread but the OP might still be curious...I have installed a Core 2 Duo E6550 2 2.33 GHz and it runs fine. I recently installed a Core 2 Quad Q9550S and while works, the CPU and system fan run at full speed all the time. It's just too noisy so I've pulled the processor and put the E6550 back in. I'm looking for a BIOS mod that will allow me to control the fans via SpeedFan or via the BIOS. Still looking...

The Q6600 is working fine you just need an additional cooler to keep it cold Smile
I upgraded my Dell XPS One A2010 with a Q8400S processor, the TDP is fine (65W) but the fan run at full speed all the time. If someone could do a bios update of https://downloads.dell.com/bios/R215335.EXE for all the core2quad with TDP 65W it would be so nice !

Thanks,

Do Load Defaults in BIOS, save and reboot.
Post screenshots of first (CPU) & third (Mainboard) tabs of CPU-Z with current CPU.
Make a screenshot of regedit with expanded key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\HARDWARE\DESCRIPTION\System\CentralProcessor\0
Well i am with linux Ubuntu 16.04.
Use Windows Live DVD/USB
Is this convenient ?
