according to bio star web site it currently does not support the Athlon II x4 620

but suppors the future Athlon II x4 600e/605e

Biostar also has a similar board the TA790GXE 128 which does list the 620/630 as being supported.

is it possible to use that bios? on the TA780GX or would it be better to have a modded bios?

There is only minal difference

Right , well this is experimental , as ive not done an AMI CPU Patch before but it should work. I basically compared the cpu lists between the bios that does support and the bios that doesnt. The bios that DOES support the X4 620 had one more microcode entry than the one that doesnt. Apart from that , the cpu microcodes between the two bioses were identical.

so i extracted the extra cpu microcode , which must be for the X4 620 and inserted it into the TA790GX 128 bios.

Try this at your own risk!

Thanks for quick response,

I went with the Biostar A785ge board instead, I am unsure if it wil have any ability to oc but i couldnt pass up on the great discount newegg was giving on the combo with the Athlon II 620 (over 40.00 saving board was almost free at 20.00). I will have to wait to see if the bios on that board will allow for any oc at all. If the bio's doesnt allow me to do very much I may post another request. I am on a budget and this will be overall a big upgrade for myself and it will be my first build. It is similar to the TA78ge board with the exception that it doesnt have a 128 sidport for the igp. Ill post when i recieve the board on what happesn.
finally got chance to put this mobo/cpu together.. oc features are a bit disappointing.. no acc to help with overclocking and voltage increments are really a pain. any chance this bios can be change with the ta785g3? or modify to have the same? the only difference between the two is the 128m side port.
