[GUIDE] How to modify AMI MSI BIOS to unlock full features (UEFI Aptio4)
#11
(01-26-2017, 12:53 PM)BiosNoob Wrote: Hey,

I modded the bios for my samsung rc-530 laptop using your tutorial. I only changed stuff that looked useful to me to USER instead of default (i want to disable iGPU and use an external gpu, also i want to enable cpu overclockability when i'm modding the BIOS anyways). I'm just wondering if i can mess this up? Like is it possible that i change something i shouldn't to USER and is messes something up?

Also i have another question. How do i know if i have APTIO 4?

Edit: Also one last thing. I'm using an external keyboard (steelseries g6 v2 if it matters) because my laptop keyboard is broken. Will this be a problem?

Thanks, BiosNoob

Did you figure it out?

I have a question about AMIBCP:

I'm not sure whats going on here but i feel like there should be something more than just this:

I cant find anything about users or options to edit, can somebody please tell me what i'm doing wrong? I also cant save, it give me an error saying: Error occurred in BIOS rebuild (#80000015)

You probably have a newer processor, which requires Aptio 5, try that

how?

EDIT: I found the AFU for aptio 5 but i couldn't figure out how to download the AMIBCP, and when I tried to use the one from the tools this thread on the new rom from the new AFU, i got the same result

Sorry  meant a new version of AMIBCP, you should not need a new version of AFUWIN. Try the downloads here: http://voltground.com/haven/threads/102/

That is what I used (but I only needed AMIBCP 4 since I have an older processor)

Weird, did you make sure to run as admin? If that doesn't work, try FPTW (I have attached the files). To read the bios with it, open the command prompt as admin, cd to the folder and run fptw64 -d xxxxxx.rom -BIOS (where xxxxxx.rom is the name you choose).

With FPTW I get "Error 318: The host CPU does not have read access to the target flash area. To enable read access for this operation you must modify the descriptor settings to give host access to this region.

FPT Operation Failed."(I ran it as admin)

but anyways I got it to work after using amibcp 5.02 instead of the old one so it doesn't matter  Big Grin

but now I can't flash the .rom I modified in AFUWINGUI it says:"18 - Error: Secure Flash Verify Failed." and I also tried flashing it via the BIOS updater but it say the rom size does not match which I guess means there was a problem in rom extraction and with FPTW it says rom size is 8192KB but the AFUWINGUI extracted rom is 6144KB.

I tryed to download BIOS from msi and mod it then install it via the BIOS EFI flasher(the self flashing thingy in the bios)but it say something like invalid rom format 11 so then I opened up a text editor and compared the original msi bios and the modded one but they look same so I dont get what the bios means by invalid rom format.

Love this guide, thanks a lot!

However I have a question. How can you update the microcode on the BIOS? I can read the microcode but can't seem to be able to replace or add the microcode.

Hey guys, I used voltground.com/haven/threads/102/ to get it working
