HP Probook/Elitebook BIOS Password Reset [Util]
#21
Hi Mazzif. I work refurbishing computers at a shop in upstate NY. We get HP Elitebooks from a Financial Corporation but a lot of the time they have BIOS passwords. Before I started working here, they accumulated in a pile because the place we buy them from won't release their passwords and the other employees didn't know how to reset them. I found your program and we have turned a pile of junk into a pile of sales on eBay. So, thank you for that!

Here's my question. Every Elitebook I've dealt with so far with a password has been able to boot to USB. Today I've got an 8560p and every possible boot path is locked out. It won't even boot to the hard disk drive without the BIOS password so I have no way of running your software. Do you have any ideas, or should I just parts this one out and chalk it up to a loss?

Hello Mazzif
thanks a lot for that super tool !

I confirm, it works for HP/Compaq 6730b

I used "DOS" than selected Probook 6730b and was able to reset the Administrator pw.

I bought that Laptop without HDD, then realized that boot from other than HDD was locked, no way to boot from DVD, USB....

everything is running fine now.
Big Grin thanks again, Ptr.

1.) Donate to one of various organizations offering medical, military, and psychological support to those impacted: Support Organizations

2.) Combat misinformation on social media.

Also, please feel free to PM me if I have not replied again about your BIOS mod request after 5 days.

Hello mazzif!

Can you send me your cool tool to reset password on my HP Elitebook 6930p, please?
All links below already expired Sad So, can you create new links, or send me it via email - vasilypichugin@ya.ru
I will be so happy, if you have a version of your tool that will work on windows 7 64-bit Smile, because boot from DVD or USB is locked from BIOS on my laptop Sad - only HDD or Network. If you have no win7 64b version of your tool - DOS version will good too Smile

Thanks!

PS: sorry for my english - it's not my native Smile

[INTRO]
My story begins as this:
A few months back, I got an HP Core i7 Probook 6550b from my dad (that he picked up 2nd hand). It had a busted display though. Upon repair, it was found to be BIOS Password protected. And thus began my quest. Long story short here, I did what I set out to do. I was able to reset the TPM, and clear the password. Along the way, I have applied my technique to a few other models and have confirmed successful TPM reset. This is a software based solution. No disassembly, or removal of any parts (unless your boot order is locked, then there is a little work to be bone, see end of post)

...

Thank you for looking. I welcome all feedback good or bad, just trying to help people. Cool

Use this tool to create an USB Recovery UEFI and try Recovery Procedure !

This tool can recreate on HD the Hidden Partition HP_TOOLS !

http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp51001-51500/sp51327.exe

UEFI and custom imaging
-------------------------------
HP BIOS Update must be run from a FAT or
FAT32 partition with a volume name of "HP_TOOLS".
This installer will give you the option to install
to the HDD or a USB drive. If you install to the
HDD and the HP_TOOLS partition is not present, the
installer will prompt you to create the HP_TOOLS
partition. If you install to a USB drive, the
installer will rename the partition on the USB drive
to HP_TOOLS. If you use a custom image, you can
create the HP_TOOLS partition manually with type
FAT32 and make the volume name HP_TOOLS.

Caution
- The UEFI partition is not protected and can therefore be deleted.
- Backing up the computer using the Windows® Vista® Complete PC Backup does
not back up the UEFI partition.
For these reasons, HP recommends that you do not place additional data on the
UEFI partition. Because the partition is not backed up, corruption or failure of
the partition will result in loss of all data on the partition, plus loss of
UEFI functionality.

You can find more information on www.hp.com/go/techcenter/startup

If You cannot find into new HP_TOOLS root folder the Bios file,
You have to extract from ROM.CAB file the following files :

efibios.sig
Rom.bin
Rom.sig
ver.sig

and put into USB root place (Remember to check USB name as HP_TOOLS).

Let me know

Dear Sir,

I have tried to create a flash drive with vol name as HP_TOOLS and extracted the sp51327 file and got 2 folders on the flash drive. Connected the same to the damaged notebook and pressing windows + B key and powering the laptop got no results. I still have the caps lock flashing and the power led glowing.
There is instruction to copy the
efibios.sig
Rom.bin
Rom.sig
ver.sig

to the root of the flash drive but where do I find these files? These files are not present in the flash drive folders. The laptop is not working to extract from the damaged laptop.

Kindly advice.

Thank you and Best Regards

These files are into ROM.CAB file, so You have to extract from It !

P.S. ROM.CAB is present into sp51327 as into any sp for Bios Update dedicated to your laptop.
