Hi everyone,
I'm working on an old Olivetti all-in-one system that appears to be based on an MSI OEM motherboard (labeled G35T-TG, Intel G35 chipset), although I'm not 100% sure about the exact board model. I can provide photos if needed.
The system originally came with an NVIDIA GeForce 8400 GS (MXM, 256MB DDR2), which works perfectly with the internal display.

Goal
Upgrade the GPU to a GeForce 9600M GT (MXM-II, DDR2, 64KB VBIOS, MS-V149B).

Current situation

The 9600M GT powers on and works

System boots normally

Windows loads

External display (DVI) works perfectly

BUT:

No image on internal display (LVDS)

No BIOS/logo → completely black screen

What I tested
1. BIOS settings

Tried PEG / IGD / Auto options

No change

2. Hardware checks

GPU properly seated

Cooling and power OK

External output confirms GPU is working

3. VBIOS analysis

Dumped VBIOS from both GPUs

Compared 8400 GS vs 9600M GT using hex tools

The VBIOS files are significantly different, not just minor variations

Differences are spread across many regions, not isolated blocks

4. VBIOS mod attempt

Tried copying suspected LVDS/init sections

Result: GPU failed to initialize (black screen everywhere, required recovery)

5. Cross comparison

Compared my 8400 GS VBIOS with Acer versions

They are also very different, not matching dumps

Suggests OEM-specific variations or different board implementations

6. Recovery & tools

I already prepared a proper flashing setup

Used NVFlash and tested recovery procedures

I have full backups of all original VBIOS files

Comfortable with reflashing and recovery

Additional note
When working on the VBIOS, I’m not sure if I may have been looking at the wrong sections.
I was not able to clearly identify LVDS-related tables or display initialization blocks, and the structure of the VBIOS makes it difficult to isolate the relevant parts.

Possible causes (not sure)

Differences between G86 (8400 GS) and G96 (9600M GT) display initialization

LVDS panel configuration or timing mismatch

OEM-specific VBIOS or motherboard limitations

Different LVDS wiring or output routing

I'm not sure which of these is the actual cause, so any insight would help.

Question
Has anyone:

Successfully used a 9600M GT MXM in an AIO system like this?

Found a compatible VBIOS that enables LVDS output on similar hardware?

Seen similar incompatibilities when moving from G86 to G96?

Summary

8400 GS → internal display works

9600M GT → external only

System boots fine

Issue = LVDS initialization / firmware incompatibility

I can provide motherboard and GPU photos if needed.
Thanks in advance 🙏

Hi everyone.
My laptop HP HDX9000 has an MXM slot, but the original card (Nvidia 8800M GTS) is treated as a normal PCIe card. It's not following the MXM software specification.
After inserting GTX 280M, there's no picture on the internal screen, but the OS is booting up fine. Needed to swap LVDS pins before doing that because LVDS pinout in the laptop is not following the MXM hardware specification. The backlight is working fine. But when I flashed vBIOS from GTX 260M, the picture comes on, but there's no backlight. When I flash vBIOS from the 8800M GTS, the picture comes on and the backlight works fine, but obviously the performance and memory amount are low.
I can make GTX 280M not require the MXM structure, but the picture doesn't appear on the screen anyway, so there's a problem with setting up output signal to the internal screen. The card can't probably pick up EDID through DDC.
.NetRolller 3D said a long time ago that MXM structure should be inserted into the vBIOS, but I don't know how to make it all work. By the way, I have written a vBIOS parcer in ImHex for old Nvidia cards, so it's easier to find some needed things in the vBIOS.
Do you have any ideas on how to make the card work with my laptop?

I updated the bios with last version 1.34 and now my PC2-6400 runs only at 667 MHz.
I tried the versions 1.34 1.28 and 1.25 (the only I found on line) and also the unlocked version of 1.34 and 1.28 founded here.
I tried also with an other brand of ram but it runs only at 667 Mhz

I searched online for hours, I didn't find anywhere below version 1.25
I think it's only an Acer marketing move because GM45 supports DDR2 at 800 MHz (as with bios 1.18)...

So I would ask if it is possible please to mod the original version 1.28 (I don't like 1.34) in order to get ram at full speed of 800 MHz

I ask please only this modify. Thank you very much

Hello all,

I hope this message finds you well! I’m actually jealous on the ones who can mod an BIOS. I’m reaching out because I’m facing an issue with my beloved Asus TUF Gaming A15 (FA507NVR - LP017W). Unfortunately, it’s suffered water damage and seems to be running less than optimally, especially without the battery. The CPU is currently only running at 0.4 GHz, as confirmed by the repair technician. Even when trying to install a new battery, it doesn’t seem to work, so I suspect the battery connection itself might also be damaged.
What I’m hoping for is if there’s anyone out there who might be able to help me mod the BIOS to make it think there’s a battery installed, so it can run at full performance once again. This would mean the world to me, and I’d be forever grateful for any help or guidance you can provide.
Sadly enough because I’m an new member of the forum I can’t upload an file. But this is the link to download the exe to extract the latest BIOS Update.
Thank you so much in advance! Your kindness would truly make a huge difference.

Best regards,

Hello, I am desperate for a potential motherboard mod. I purchased 2 MSI MAG B550M MORTAR for a new home server project. This has a particular PCIE slot and bandwidth that is exactly what I need to support everything on my 2 servers that I'm building.

One big issue: no ECC RAM support.

Asrock and gigabyte seem to offer wide ranging ECC RAM on B550, however MSI seems to have it disabled on all boards. They only operate in non-ECC mode. Is this a possible mod that can be done? I have spent hours looking at motherboards and I cant find any other board that matches the B550 mortar whilst being MATX, and supporting ECC.

I need to support 4 PCIe 4.0 m.2 SSDs and two x1 PCIe cards. The MSI Mortar allows me to run single M.2 up top, dual m.2 on the x16 aslot, and a single NVME on the bottom x16 slot. Then a NIC and super basic GPU in the x1 slots. The Mortar is perfect but lacks ECC support.

It would be so greatly appreciated if someone is capable of doing this. If someone knowledgeable knows its not possible, I would love to know.

I found this forum during google research for BIOS mods. It seems this is my last chance to find an solution for my ABIT KT7A. I already tried some tools, but they cannot do what I want.

During holiday I planned to do for a long time dreamed project: Retro gaming PC from 90ties to begin of 2000. This PC should include an motherboard with ISA, PCI and AGP slot.
It should run DOS, W95, W98 and WXP and include Sound Blaster ISA, 3Dfx PCI and Geforce 4 4200ti AGP.
Last important thing is: it should run between 100Mhz-1,5Ghz (at least from 300Mhz). The reason is that some games are CPU speed related.

Witch the ABIT KT7A v1.3 I found an nearly perfect and in budged motherboard. Only the lowest frequency could not be reached. The CPU multiplicator starts with 5x100 what means the lowest frequency is 500Mhz.

Is it possible an if yes could someone add multiplicator 1 – 1,5 – 2 – 2,5 – 3 – 3,5 – 4 – 4,5?
Make it sense? Or is it not possible due to mainboard HW architecture, CPU (Athlon XP 2000+) or chipset? Maybe stability issues?
