I downloaded and flashed the modded A17 Bios on my D630 that already had windows 7 Ultimate on it from the Dell window 7 Ultimate OEM installation Disk and after the reboot it came up as already activated. Just before the upgrade it said that I had 7 days to activate and that the license key could not be used for activation.
YOU GUYS ROCK!!!!! Big Grin

That is strange, for the d630 with the bios from Dell(non modded bios), I was able to install Dell oem vista without any problem, because d630 already had slic 2.0 and I did not have to activated(it was already activated). But for the W7, I had to flash the modded bios with slic 2.1, in this case A17 with slic 2.1, without need to activate the W7. Thanks
it works.

Just to clarify , thats not strange at all. The original bios only contained 2.0 slic , but because he used a dell ultimate windows 7 disc , the correct certificate and key would have been automatically installed during the installion (cos thats what the OEM discs do!). Because it then only saw a 2.0 slic table , it came up with "7 Days to activate". Upon flashing teh modded bios and doing a reboot , the computer suddenly recognizes the 2.1 table which matches the preinstalled certificate and slp key and therefore activates the system without going online because the "SLIC Formula" (Cert , Bios Slic Table , SLP Key) is complete.

Hope this helps you understanding Smile

Thanks, My W7 was certified with this rom file, but I still can't complete the update KB974431.. The process of updating keeps on failing..
Anybody knows what caused this failure? I need your experience and advice, guys..

Thanks..
WOW this worked awesome!! This thread makes it sound harder than it is.... you just extract the rar and open the folder Modified Bios and Original Bios Utilities, open the file Modified Bios, and run D630_A17_SLIC.exe

make sure you have a full battery and are plugged into the ac adapter

your computer will restart and flash the BIOS

then when you install windows 7 use the Windows 7 OEM SLP product keys in the folder Windows Activation and Xtras and open the file WINDOWS 7 OEM SLP PRODUCT KEYS.txt

easy as pie!!

Thanks again
Is windows 7 ultimate required for this bios mod? I had a d630 installed with oem dell windows 7 professional, and it worked. Is this temporary or do I have to modify it for a oem dell windows 7 pro key?

Bios mods do not require any specific version - They work with all versions , its just determined by which key you enter in!

This is a permanent solution unless you update your bios again using an official manufacturers link which doesnt contain a SLIC Table. If theres a BIOS update that you require , request to have it remodded then upgrade using our modded version

Hi, i'm a linux user so i dont care about windows activation and stuff like that. However, i'm also a hacker, and i'd like to know if there's a way you can mod the BIOS to use wlan cards on second mini PCI-e port instead of wwan cards. The bios basically throws an unaccepted card error when trying to use it, you'd just have to remove that check to enable better use a the material.
thanks, awaiting your opinion.

Yes! these checks can be disabled but its a hit-and-miss kind of thing at the moment. Make a request in the right forum though and we will be happy to taek a look at it and see what we can do Smile

Wow, I was running a Dell D630 with BIOS Version A-13. You can run all 8GB's with this update. I decided to update it to "A-17" because it's the latest update.
Here is the problem I've had since I did the update. "Please read"
I have bought & sold 4 of these models which included the BIOS A-17 update. Installed Windows 7 & have had no calls about any problems. Note: 3 of the updates came from Dell's website. The 4th one which I have here, getting ready to deliver has the following problem [I downloaded the update from here because for some reason it wouldn't update from the Dell site.]
Since I installed the A-17 update, I lose the wifi, I also noticed that the "New 9 cell battery now only charges to 85% which dropped to 82%.
Last night I reinstalled Windows7 & during the install, the first "Black Screen" had about 30 smiley faces diagonally on the screen, spaced using this symbol " * " no brackets]. Sounds like a corrupted file or virus. I should have saved it & run a virus check prior to installing the update but I trusted the source & have never ran into this problem before.
How it acted: Slow page loading [2.2GHz/4MB L2cache/667MHz core2duo with 8GB Ram & 7200 RPM HDD] An Acer I had next to it which is way slower actually loaded pages every 2 seconds compared to about every 8 seconds with the Dell. I get the feeling the slow page load was because of the wifi that I find missing in Device Manager once I reboot, which I've had to reinstall 2 times already. If anyone can tell me where to go, it would help. I thought I could go back to Dell's site & either download the same update or go back to update A-13. Thanks, danmaxHuh

I have installed the bios in my d630, but windows 7 by dell doesn't activate, as if there was no 2.1 table in bios. Everest detects no slic table in acpi. What gone wrong? Huh

EDIT:
Found the solution: http://forums.mydigitallife.info/threads/9055-SLP-Marker-File-Update-Utility?p=131377&viewfull=1#post131377

This part worked:
Quote:1.boot to dos ( I used hiren's boot from pendrive )
2.run svctag
3.type y to confirm change service tag
4.type new service tag (just use your original one)
5.type again to confirm new service tag
6.run asset PASS:12/31 or 12/34
7.reboot to check
