I never thought I would be thankful they'd find a bug in the BIOS, but this is reason.

This should be interesting. I still haven't tried a hw programmer on this thing (been too busy with other projects), and now this changes the strategy quite a bit...

I would imagine it is a good idea to wait on this update until we can determine if it can be hacked?

I'm willing to start looking at the tools needed to make this happen...

I've never done this before, but here are some links I found!

Maybe we should try this PhnxPatch. Can anyone offer guidance? I'm going to go ahead and at least confirm that I can flash the new BIOS file (unmodified) using Crisis Recovery Mode.

...

This is Insyde BIOS, not Phoenix... Are they somehow related? Maybe so... I've got a lot of reading to do!

I didn't even realize that! But yes, apparently they are related.

Yes, I've been reading Donavan's blog. I'm ok with x86 code, but need to become familiar with the tools. I hope to get started today.

BTW, if you run the BIOS updater, it doesn't even ask for confirmation. Just runs, reboots, flashes, and restarts. Also, no backup is made of the prior BIOS. The whole process is really quick. So... I have updated BIOS now. Of course, attempting to run a second time ... just informs that the same version BIOS is already installed and it aborts. Extracting the files reveals an .INI file for configuration where you can disable the version check, enable backups and other goodies.
